Research Associate

California Workers’ Compensation Institute (CWCI) Oakland, CA (hybrid potential) CWCI, founded in 1964, is an Oakland-based nonprofit research and public policy organization dedicated to improving the California workers’ compensation system. We are seeking a Research Associate to support our research program through data management, analysis, interpretation, and reporting — translating complex data into clear, useful insights for industry and policy audiences. Responsibilities Conduct applied research on healthcare utilization, medical costs, disability, and other policy-relevant topics. Process, manage, and analyze administrative claims data and other large datasets. Draft reports, presentations, charts, and other research products for industry and policy audiences. Support the development of analytic tools, including Tableau dashboards. Present research findings internally and in public or professional forums. Collaborate with research leadership to develop research questions and methodology. Qualifications Required: Bachelor’s degree in economics, statistics, actuarial science, public policy, public health, health services research, data analytics, or a related field; at least three years of experience in applied research, health data analysis, public policy, or a related area (relevant graduate research experience may also be considered); strong quantitative and analytical skills with large or complex datasets; experience with SQL, SAS, R, or Python and advanced Excel proficiency; strong written and verbal communication skills. Preferred: Graduate degree in a relevant field; experience with healthcare, disability, insurance, or administrative claims data, including medical billing and procedure coding; knowledge of the California workers’ compensation system; experience with Tableau or other data visualization tools. Full-time Oakland, CA office, with potential for hybrid work Reports to the Vice President of Research Salary range: $85,000-$125,000, commensurate with experience Comprehensive benefits package.
