Family Nurse Practitioner Or Physician Assistant
Under the general supervision of the Medical Director, Supervising Physician and/or Director of Clinic Operations plans, directs, and evaluates patients in our health clinic. Responsible for examining and treating chronic and acute episodic illnesses, minor injuries, accidents, and other injuries/illnesses. Performs selected laboratory testing, referrals to physicians as needed, writes prescriptions, and performs office procedures within the scope of expertise, protocols, and available equipment.
The incumbent is expected to work in accordance with the mission, purpose, and values of the Colusa Indian Community Council.
Essential duties and responsibilities include evaluating and treating clinic patients of all ages by interviewing and performing physical exams including obtaining, updating and studying medical histories. Performing physical examinations (Well-women, Sports-physicals, etc.). Ordering and interpreting diagnostic tests. Administering injections and oral medications. Suturing wounds, ordering appropriate castings and DME and applying when necessary. Consulting appropriately with physicians and other health professionals regarding patient status. Ensuring that supervising physician is kept informed of any unusual or significant findings concerning their patients. Assisting with the coordination of health promotional activities to our tribal community. Performing pre-employment physicals and ordering appropriate employee health vaccinations. Examining staff after on-the-job accidents or injuries. Acting as a resource person for decisions, planning, and policies affecting the health clinic and staff. Compiling necessary reports when required for insurance authorizations. Providing patient education and counsels patients and families. Referring patients for specialty care when necessary. Serving as a member of committees dealing with organizations health care services. Protecting patients and employees by adhering to infection control policies. Complying with clinic policy and procedures. Participating in clinic provider meetings. Maintaining high confidentiality standards at all times. Performing other duties commensurate with the functions and level of the position.
Minimum qualifications include a graduate of an accredited Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant program. Previous experience managing patients in an outpatient clinic is desired. One (1) year experience working in a fast-paced clinic setting. Must have current FNP/PA license in the state of California. Current BLS Certification. Valid DEA license. National Provider Identification (NPI) number.
Physical requirements include being able to lift one hundred (100) pounds, if necessary to assist patient. Must be able to work in a busy environment and to lift a minimum of thirty (30) pounds upon occasion.
Key competencies include the ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously. Effective management of staff and provider working relations. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Knowledge of compliance with state/federal regulations of the Injury Prevention and Safety Program. Compliance with Medicare, OSHA or other governing agencies. Good organization and time management skills. Dedicated hard worker with ability to report to work on time.
