Principal Office Specialist

Hennepin County's Public Works Administration (PWA) is seeking a Principal Office Specialist. This position will provide high level administrative support to the PWA department by handling office tasks, organizing files, and performing payroll functions. Location and hours: This position is hybrid and will be performed both on-site at the Public Works Facility located on 1600 Prairie Dr, Medina, MN 55340, and remote as job duties require. Work hours will be Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m. While this position is designated as hybrid, based on current requirements hires must reside in or relocate to Minnesota or Wisconsin. About this position types: This is a full-time benefit earning position. You must be a current regular or probationary employee of Public Works Financial Services to apply for this position. In this position, you will: Provide clerical support and administrative assistance. Process APEX position management transactions. Manage Public Works (PW) payroll and timecard auditing, business line SharePoint sites. Create and update internal procedures. Perform employee leave tracking. Contribute to miscellaneous projects and duties as they arise. Need to have: One of the following: Three years of office clerical experience. 30 months of office clerical experience and completion of the Office Specialist Pathway Training program. OR Related education and/or experience to total three years. Note: Some positions require specific experience and/or education related to the position. Nice to have: Experience: Developing reports, presentations, and meeting notes. Managing files, support efforts related to data collection, assessment and evaluation. Utilizing Microsoft Office Suite applications such as Excel, Outlook, Word, etc. Ability to: Serve and support staff using various communication methods, while giving clear and concise information and/or direction. Handle multiple complex and simultaneous tasks by setting priorities to meet deadlines. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, business partners, and leadership. Work independently and as part of a growing team. Build trust and communicate with members in order to fully meet their needs. About the department: Public Works connects people to places through planning, designing, engineering, and constructing roads, bridges, and transit lines. Using innovative technologies, Public Works maintains, operates, and preserves the county's highway system. Public Works also manages solid waste, delivers clean energy, and protects the environment. Staff seek opportunities to reduce disparities in the Transportation Domain and supporting connectivity and activities with the other six domains (education, employment, health, housing, income and justice). The team also supports the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority, provides Fleet Services to all lines of business in the county and manages the Energy Center which heats and cools county buildings in downtown Minneapolis.
