Job Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Benefits Specialist to oversee day-to-day benefits administration and support our annual open enrollment process. In this role, you will provide strategic direction, manage critical data workflows for internal and external audits, and serve as a main point of contact for employee benefits inquiries. This position requires 100% on-site presence at our Houston, TX office, with occasional travel required for new plan enrollments.
Key Responsibilities
- Benefits Administration & Open Enrollment: Oversee day-to-day benefits administration functions, process benefit elections, and manage all actions related to the annual open enrollment period.
- Data & Compliance Management: Gather employee data, oversee monthly billings for all group plans, and manage data to support internal/external audit requests. Ensure strict compliance with HIPAA, billing regulations, and safety guidelines.
- Employee & Vendor Relations: Provide timely, accurate, and courteous responses to employee inquiries. Work closely with payroll, HR Services, and vendor partners to maintain and update data feeds as necessary.
- Leave Tracking: Monitor benefit premium payments and ensure correct pay mapping for employees currently on FMLA/Leave of Absence (LOA).
- Process Improvement: Document and maintain administrative procedures, assist in reviewing plan documents, and offer suggestions for continuous HR workflow improvements.
- Leadership & Support: Provide the benefits department with tactical leadership and strategic direction; coach and mentor assigned staff to support their professional development.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor’s or Graduate’s Degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Computer Science, or a related field (equivalent hands-on experience will be considered).
- Experience: Proven experience handling onboarding and termination procedures within a corporate HR environment.
- Technical Regulations: Advanced, thorough understanding of HIPAA regulations and compliance frameworks.
- Skills: Strict attention to detail, strong multitasking capabilities, and excellent verbal/written English communication skills.
