Child Peer Support Specialist

This role offers the opportunity to support children and families as they navigate their mental health journeys, working collaboratively with a compassionate team. The Child Peer Support Specialist will report to the Director of Operations and receive supervision from the Support Specialist Supervisor, ensuring ongoing professional development and support.

Responsibilities

• Provide individual peer support services to children and families within the community.
• Assist clients in developing treatment goals within the first 30 days of service.
• Support clients in restoring, rehabilitating, and developing social and interpersonal skills.
• Identify, enhance, and establish support networks, increase community awareness, and teach coping strategies.
• Promote the development of daily living skills for clients.
• Help clients manage the negative effects of psychiatric or emotional symptoms.
• Assist clients in identifying and responding to triggers that may lead to functional impairments.
• Implement and update Peer Support Plans on an ongoing basis.
• Participate in collaborative meetings with Behavioral Health Services staff and other community supports as needed.
• Communicate regularly regarding clients' status, including changes in mood, functioning, medical issues, and any crisis or health and safety concerns.
• Maintain accurate and effective clinical documentation for every client contact.
• Attend all required office trainings and regular clinical supervision sessions.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED equivalent.
• Bilingual Spanish-speaking ability.
• Self-identification as a current or former consumer of mental health services, or as a first-degree family member of someone who has received such services.
• Demonstrated minimum of 6 months in self-directed recovery within the last year (if applicable).
• Ability to use a computer interface to complete documentation for billing or other purposes as needed.
