Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate ASL Interpreter / Paraprofessional to support a student who is Deaf or Hard of Hearing in an educational setting in Houma, Louisiana . The ideal candidate will provide communication support through American Sign Language (ASL), assist with classroom activities, and help create a positive, inclusive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide ASL interpretation and communication support between the student, teachers, staff, and peers.
• Assist the student in understanding classroom instruction, assignments, and school activities.
• Support teachers with classroom activities and instructional tasks as needed.
• Provide one-on-one or small-group academic and behavioral support.
• Reinforce classroom expectations and encourage positive student behavior.
• Assist with preparing instructional materials and adapting activities when appropriate.
• Support the student's participation in classroom, extracurricular, and school-wide activities.
• Maintain a safe, respectful, and inclusive learning environment.
• Communicate effectively with teachers, school staff, and other members of the educational team.
• Maintain student confidentiality and follow all school policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties related to student support as assigned.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) .
• Previous experience working with Deaf/Hard of Hearing students, children, or in an educational setting is preferred.
• Paraprofessional, educational aide, interpreter, or classroom support experience is a plus.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Patience, dependability, and a genuine interest in supporting students.
• Ability to work collaboratively with teachers and school staff.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Additional certifications or credentials related to ASL, interpreting, or paraprofessional services are a plus.
