The Director works collaboratively across the School to support Tabor's residential and educational mission while providing a high level of service to the campus community.

Key Responsibilities :

  • Oversee the facilities work-order and asset-management system, ensuring requests are appropriately prioritized, tracked, and completed in a timely manner.
  • Maintain organized and accurate building plans, specifications, operating and maintenance manuals, and other facilities records.
  • Ensure effective communication with the School community regarding maintenance projects, schedules, disruptions, and related safety concerns.
  • Maintain an active, visible presence across campus and provide hands-on support and technical guidance to the Facilities team when operational needs, projects, or emergencies require.
  • Lead, supervise, develop, and evaluate Facilities staff, providing clear expectations, regular direction, training, mentorship, and professional development.
  • Collaborate with Human Resources on recruitment, performance management, employee relations, and other personnel matters within the department.
  • Manage contracted service providers and establish policies, procedures, and standards that support effective facilities operations and exceptional customer service.
  • Develop and manage annual facilities operating and capital budgets, monitor expenditures, and provide appropriate financial oversight.
  • Manage facilities and capital projects from planning through completion, including schedules, internal and external resources, vendors, contractors, consultants, and project costs.
  • Lead competitive procurement and RFP processes and, in collaboration with the CFO/COO, negotiate and manage facilities-related vendor agreements.
  • Select, retain, and oversee facilities contractors and consultants to support operational needs, project execution, and cost-effective service delivery.
  • Review and approve facilities invoices and ensure expenditures align with approved contracts and budgets.
  • Ensure facilities operations comply with applicable local, state, and federal regulatory requirements, including building, occupancy, accessibility, OSHA, environmental, and fire-safety requirements.
  • Coordinate required permits, licenses, inspections, and certifications with appropriate governmental authorities.
  • Oversee required inspections and maintenance of building and life-safety systems, including boilers, fire alarms, elevators, and other regulated equipment.
  • Oversee environmental, energy, and sustainability initiatives, including energy management, recycling, conservation, and opportunities to improve campus efficiency and sustainability.
  • Ensure critical infrastructure and emergency power systems are appropriately tested, maintained, and operational.
  • Collaborate with IT and Security to ensure building access systems, locking mechanisms, and related physical security infrastructure are functioning properly.
  • Advise the CFO/COO and School leadership on facilities operations, capital projects, campus infrastructure, sustainability, safety, and enterprise risk, and participate in leadership discussions and planning as appropriate.
  • Partner with the Chief Employee Engagement Officer (CEEO) to coordinate faculty housing transitions, summer residence improvements, and standards for the maintenance of School-owned employee residences.
  • Collaborate with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Programs to provide facilities support for auxiliary programs and functions.
  • Provide emergency facilities response and participate in 24-hour on-call coverage as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Participate in the campus planning work that is currently underway working closely with Sasaki Associates.
  • Prioritize learning the key features and design principles of the Campus Planning Framework that was developed in partnership with Sasaki between 2024-2025.
  • Prepare and help lead the review of the Schematic Design and Design Development of Phase 1, working in close collaboration with potential construction firms.
  • Help formulate the necessary construction budgets and schedules for Phase 1.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, facilities management, or a related field; equivalent combination of education and relevant experience may be considered.
  • Ten or more years of progressively responsible facilities, engineering, buildings and grounds, construction, or related experience, including significant management and supervisory responsibility.
  • Demonstrated experience managing operating and capital budgets and complex facilities projects.
  • Working knowledge of applicable building, environmental, health, and safety codes and standards.
  • Ability to respond effectively to facilities emergencies and operational issues.
  • Willingness and ability to provide 24-hour emergency on-call support as required.
  • Valid driver's license.

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Strong leadership, management, and organizational skills, with the ability to supervise, motivate, mentor, and develop employees.

  • Ability to read and interpret architectural plans, specifications, building codes, and related technical documents.
  • Excellent proactive communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, vendors, School leadership, and members of the campus community.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, competing priorities, and operational needs in a dynamic residential and educational environment.
  • Demonstrated commitment to responsive, high-quality customer service.
  • Ability to understand and support Tabor Academy's mission, values, and educational purpose and work effectively within the School's culture.

Preferred Skills and Abilities:
