Job Description
Are you a warm, connected communicator who understands that having the right behavior plan can catalyze positive, lasting change for young students and their families?
Do you aspire to be part of an impactful team who gives children the foundation to thrive, both in and out of the classroom? As an Education Behavior Specialist , you’ll help explore and discover what various student behaviors really represent, because they are often more than meets the eye. You will observe closely, listen deeply, and identify ways to chart a course toward greater success. By conducting assessments, building support plans, guiding teachers and therapists, and developing strong ties with families and guardians, you can ensure that young autistic and neurodivergent individuals have everything needed to realize their fullest potential. And as part of our team at Anderson, you will likewise have the chance to fully thrive too! Robust benefits and career advancement opportunities await; this is a chance to enrich your own life while doing the same for others. What You Will Do As An Education Behavior Specialist:- You will maintain strong knowledge of autism and related disorders, engaging in training/learning experiences as requested and staying current on best practices and Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) principles.
- You will assist in conducting all relevant assessments (VBMAPP, skill acquisition such as AFLS, maladaptive behavior, preference assessments etc), assist in writing behavior intervention plans (BIPs), and help create skill acquisition programs (as well as providing relevant training).
- You will develop, carry out, and monitor behavior support plans that align with IEP goals for each student.
- You will provide direct, person-centered behavioral services in the Children’s Education Program, working under the direction of the supervising Behavior Analyst (BA) and alongside our Education Administrators.
- You will oversee and ensure appropriate data collection systems that include data analysis and database decision-making (inclusive of BIPs and skill acquisition programs; promoting PBIs and Tier 1 supports).
- You will provide ongoing training and coaching for program staff on evidence-based strategies relevant to each individual, clearly modeling behavioral support strategies and conveying goals and objectives as they relate to individual plans (sometimes doing so responsively in real time).
- You will utilize efficient, clear, and effective communication strategies to promote an open exchange of relevant information among all who are involved in optimizing the quality of life for our program participants.
- You will develop participant- and program-specific reports and summaries.
- You will perform other related duties as assigned by Behavioral Services and Education Administration.
- You will help create a culture of unconditional positive regard that maximizes strengths while effectively navigating any challenges that arise, ultimately doing what you can to ensure that our students and their team members have the tools needed to experience greater success.
- Dependability, compassion, and a genuine desire to foster independence and self-worth for individuals with autism, both in and out of the classroom.
- Alignment with our mission and values.
- A commitment to mentoring, coaching, and training colleagues and family members.
- Strong organizational and observational skills, and the ability to deliver clinical expertise with warmth and sensitivity.
- Adaptability, integrity, strong interpersonal skills, and an ability to be truly present.
- Have earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Psychology or other relevant human services discipline, which is required; Master’s Degree Preferred.
- Have some experience in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) (preferred, but not required).
- Aspire to pursue career development in Applied Behavior Analysis, or can demonstrate current enrollment in a Master’s-level ABA program (within 6 months of your date of hire).
- Are capable at all times of initiating or assisting in all components of crisis intervention should needs arise.
- Understand that you may be needed to assist in residences and classrooms to maintain appropriate staff ratios.
- Obtain and subsequently maintain qualifications in all health, safety, and crisis intervention procedures of the agency, such as First Aid, CPR, SCIP-R and medication administration certification.
- Complete agency training.
