Patient Navigator (Nurse, Remote)

NBTS continues to invest in new ideas and research poised to incent the development and realization of treatments that dramatically increase survival and quality of life for patients. Position Summary: The Patient Navigator, as part of the NBTS Personalized Support and Navigation team, will respond to outreach from brain tumor patients and caregivers through phone, video, text, and email. The role provides evidence-based information and resources to help individuals understand their diagnosis, navigate treatment and clinical trial options, overcome barriers to care, connect with supportive care services, and access programs and services offered by NBTS. The Patient Navigator will also lend their expertise to inform key NBTS initiatives. Please note that NBTS is based in Boston, and candidates located in the Eastern time zone of the United States are preferred. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: This is a representative list of the general duties the position may be asked to perform and is not intended to be all-inclusive. Empower patients as they navigate the complexities of the health care system by providing key tools, information, and opportunities to make more informed decisions about their care. Work collaboratively with other NBTS team members to identify barriers to quality care that contribute to disparities, and identify information, resources and emotional support needs of newly diagnosed and medically underserved patients, survivors, and caregivers. Establish and leverage relationships and alliances with health care and other support providers to enhance service and referral networks. Foster and maintain relationships with other members of the NBTS team in order to build patient referral mechanisms and promote patient navigation. Collaborate closely with the Associate Director of Community Programs to co-navigate complex family cases and support program delivery. Maintain and refine post-service protocols to ensure that NBTS navigation services have met the needs of community members. Identify gaps in resources offered and work with NBTS team members to find solutions for those gaps. Maintain accurate, confidential records documenting services provided and unmet needs using Salesforce. Invite patients and their caregivers to take part in NBTS programs, volunteer, and advocate with NBTS as appropriate. Participate in the strategy and planning of NBTS initiatives that relate to overall education, assistance, and treatment of patients with brain tumors and their care partners. Provide support to other community programs such as support groups, public health campaigns, and educational initiatives. Other duties as assigned. Education and Experience: Active Registered Nurse (RN) license required Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) required 3-5 years of clinical oncology experience or nurse navigation experience required; specific neuro-oncology, neuro-surgery, or clinical research background preferred Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: High-quality engagement, both internally and externally Strong communication, interpersonal and organizational skills Thorough knowledge of healthcare systems, and medical terminology Experience working with neurooncology patients and families preferred Experience collaborating with social workers and interdisciplinary care teams Thorough knowledge of resources available to assist brain tumor patients Complete work in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner Ability to respond to changing circumstances and priorities in a focused, efficient manner Ability to work independently with minimal direction or oversight Ability to use available technology to perform position responsibilities The physical demands and work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Please note that the NBTS telework policy requires employees to perform all remote work within their state of residence at time of hire. Candidates with a primary work location in the Eastern time zone of the United States preferred. This is a full-time, exempt position. Normal hours are 9:00am to 5:00pm ET, Monday through Friday. Infrequent meeting/event attendance outside of normal working hours and on weekends may be required. Up to 1-2x monthly. Travel throughout the US may be required approximately 10% of the time for conferences, meetings, events, etc. This role is largely sedentary and requires sitting or standing in a stationary position for extended periods of time. This role frequently involves communicating on the phone and operating a computer for at least 70% of the work day. Total Rewards: Compensation: The anticipated compensation range for this role is $75,000.00 - $90,000.00 per year, plus benefits. Final offers are based on relevant compensable factors. These may include the candidate’s skills and experience, the role’s expectations and level of responsibility, geographic location, and a careful comparison of internal pay equity factors for similarly situated positions within our organization.
