Legal Nurse

Summary Hall Booth Smith, P.C. is hiring a Legal Nurse Consultant for our Asheville, NC office. Regular in‑office attendance is required. The role supports attorneys in all medical aspects of litigation through case preparation, management, and execution. Candidates should hold an RN degree and have clinical experience, medical record review, expert witness support, and prior legal exposure. Nursing home and long‑term care experience is advantageous. Applicants must meet a minimum billing requirement of 140 hours per month. Key Responsibilities Obtain, review, analyze, and summarize medical records and related documents. Identify and procure additional medical records. Organize, tabulate, and index records; prepare medical chronologies. Research and integrate pertinent medical and nursing literature to support case facts. Select and organize literature for trial exhibits; aid attorneys in trial presentation. Identify, locate, interview, and evaluate potential expert witnesses; send expert packages to parties. Maintain an expert database and research opposing counsel’s experts. Schedule meetings and depositions; assist attorneys in managing dates. Perform clerical duties such as typing and filing as needed. Enter billable time daily. Meet the minimum billing requirement of 140 hours per month (1,680 per year). Engage in non‑billable functions such as committee participation, seminar development, and training of new employees. Ensure all tasks comply with client guidelines. Remain flexible and assist with additional duties as directed. Qualifications RN degree or equivalent clinical experience. Work experience in a clinical setting. Knowledge of medical principles and ability to interpret medical literature. Legal knowledge to support attorney teams in case management. Organizational, prioritization, and attention‑to‑detail skills. Integrity in handling confidential matters. Interpersonal skills for communicating with a diverse group of attorneys, staff, and clients. Typing ability of 45 wpm and proficiency with computers and office equipment. Ability to work more than 40 hours per week to meet billing targets. Physical ability to sit, bend, stoop, keyboard, and lift 25–50 lbs; occasional travel may be required.
