Senior Field Operations Lead

This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, who manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Senior Field Operations Lead based in the United States.

This part-time, on-call leadership role supports a nationwide field program focused on collecting critical water utility data. You will lead teams of 4–8 field professionals across communities throughout the United States, translating project objectives into safe, organized, and effective daily operations. The role combines hands-on field leadership, logistics, stakeholder coordination, and real-time problem-solving. You’ll serve as the key link between project management, field teams, and local utility personnel. Success requires strong judgment, adaptability, communication, and the ability to remain effective in changing outdoor environments. With substantial travel and extended field activity, this is an opportunity for an experienced leader who enjoys making a direct operational impact.

Accountabilities:

• Lead field teams of approximately 4–8 staff during deployments to communities across the United States, providing daily direction, motivation, and operational oversight.
• Translate project objectives, community information, and logistical requirements into clear daily plans and priorities for field teams.
• Serve as the primary liaison between project management and onsite teams, communicating progress, challenges, risks, and operational updates.
• Maintain high standards for safety, data quality, documentation, and field execution throughout each deployment.
• Problem-solve in real time when conditions change, including weather disruptions, route changes, equipment issues, scheduling constraints, or coordination challenges with utility personnel.
• Build and maintain professional relationships with water utility personnel, public works staff, and other local stakeholders while adapting to different community environments.
• Lead and participate in field data collection activities, including walking long distances over multiple consecutive days and working outdoors in heat, cold, humidity, and light rain.
• Perform occasional light digging with a shovel to access utility infrastructure as required by field activities.
• Track, distribute, safeguard, and reconcile equipment and supplies throughout field assignments.
• Ensure field documentation and collected data are accurate, complete, reliable, and submitted in a timely manner.
• Adjust field strategies, travel plans, routes, and daily schedules in response to safety considerations, weather, utility availability, and evolving operational requirements.
• Maintain clear communication channels so issues are documented, escalated when appropriate, and resolved efficiently.
• Demonstrate dependable leadership, accountability, sound judgment, and a professional demeanor throughout field deployments.

Requirements

• 15+ years of experience leading teams, with substantial experience managing people and operations.
• Previous leadership experience in outdoor, technical, infrastructure, utility, public works, or other field-based environments strongly preferred.
• Experience working with water utility personnel, public works teams, municipalities, or comparable field stakeholders is beneficial.
• Strong team-management and leadership capabilities, with the ability to motivate and guide teams in demanding field conditions.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to build effective relationships with both internal teams and external stakeholders.
• Strong organizational and planning skills, with exceptional attention to detail when coordinating people, equipment, schedules, and documentation.
• Demonstrated ability to make sound decisions and solve problems independently in dynamic, real-world environments.
• High physical endurance and comfort with extended outdoor activity, including prolonged walking and working in varying weather conditions.
• Ability and willingness to travel extensively and repeatedly across the United States; the position is expected to require approximately 75–100% travel.
• Active driver's license required.
• U.S. citizenship required.
• No security clearance is required for this position.
• Comfortable working in a part-time, on-call capacity with approximately 8 scheduled hours per week, while supporting field deployments as operational needs require.
