Project Engineer - Underground & Submarine Cables (Kansas City)

DescriptionOur Transmission & Distribution global practice is looking for a Project Engineer in our Kansas City, MO office to serve as an engineer on engineering/EPC projects. The Project Engineer will be responsible for successful project execution from the proposal state through project closeout. Major responsibilities for the Project Engineer will include: Overall Focus/LeadershipProvide technical leadership, direction, and support to design teamProvide team level accountability for the implementation and tracking of design quality control processes and procedures utilizing all applicable QC forms and checklists.Proactive coordination and communication of project requirements and schedule needs across disciplines.Identify, develop, and communicate processes and tools to increase efficiency across the team and departmentEnsure that client requirements and expectations, industry standards, and Burns & McDonnell standards are maintainedCommunicate with the project manager regularly regarding project status and identification of challenges or concerns relating to project designs, the client, or the teamIdentify development needs of team and mentor, coach, and develop team members (engineers, designers, drafters, admin, etc.)Communicate staffing needs and employee performance to department managersCreate, improve, facilitate and teach training courses to the team and departmentProject DevelopmentDevelop engineering scope, labor hour estimates, schedules and staffing plansDevelop project design criteriaIdentify and communicate technical risks to the projectProject ExecutionEnsure adherence to project plan. Proactively communicate changes to project plan with the team.Maintain responsibility for interdisciplinary design coordinationOversee production work required to meet deliverable milestonesCoordinate design change notifications with project managerProvide technical leadership over construction engineering supportManage vendor drawing reviews and fabrication progressMonitor workload and facilitate project assignments across teamCommunicating high risk or urgent technical issues with the clientCommunicate and schedule necessary project resource needsPerform QC reviews, as requiredEnsure that all document sealing requirements for the project are metAssist in preparation of project status reportsClient EngagementServe as primary technical point of contact for the clientCommunicate all client engineering standards to the project team, including client revisions, expectations, and interpretationsBuild relationships with key personnel at the client organizationQualificationsMinimum QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Electrical, Civil, or Mechanical engineering from an accredited programMust have a minimum of five years of experience in project (engineer/construction) development and execution.Experience working on underground electrical infrastructure projectsProfessional Engineering (PE/P.Eng) registration. Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills and strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Must be capable of applying intensive and diversified knowledge of principles and practices to broad areas of assignments.
