Job Summary Provides respiratory therapy to patients as ordered by physicians. Works on more complex cases. Trains and mentors staff. Performs all types of respiratory care, including diagnostic testing, treadmills, complete pulmonary function tests, arterial blood gas machine maintenance, hemodynamics, special procedures and ENGs. Performs procedures required in specialty areas such as ICU, PACU, etc. Performs assessment and treatment of newborn, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Ability to precept students and orientees. Responsibilities Plan and organize workload. Monitor work assignments, reschedule, cancel, and coordinate workflow with staff. Assist in maintaining staff competencies and training. Train and mentor therapists. Regularly participate in the decision‑making process of the department, attend staff meetings, participate in committees, and readjust workload appropriately. Carry out patient‑age‑appropriate treatment needs. Administer all modes of routine respiratory care services, e.g., SVN, IPPB therapy, all O₂ therapies. Complete and document patient care assessment and therapy response. Consistently document all therapies and care provided according to hospital policies and procedures. Perform PFT testing, EKGs, and stress testing, special procedures, and report results accurately and timely. Assist with discharge planning: set up home care and participate in discharge planning meetings with the patient care team. Perform diagnostic tests such as simple spirometry, pulmonary function, and pulse oximetry. Other related job tasks or responsibilities as assigned. Qualifications Special Skills: Understanding of general principles of asepsis and infection control practices, including isolation. Knowledge of volume ventilators and understanding of patient hemodynamics. Excellent customer service skills. Computer skills preferred. Minimum Requirements: Education: Completion of formal two‑year respiratory education program that meets certification (CRT) and registration (RRT) requirements. Experience: Two years in respiratory therapy. Licensure/Certifications: Licensed Registered Respiratory Therapist in the State of Arizona, CPR. ACLS, PALS, and NRP required within 12 months of employment. Preferred Requirements: Experience in acute care and ICU, hemodynamic, PFT, and cardiology. Ability to precept and train staff, students, and orientees. Able to actively take a leadership role to meet the needs of the department.
