Assistant Rodeo Coach & Arena Facilities Manager

The Assistant Rodeo Coach & Arena Facilities Manager supports the Head Rodeo Coach by providing direct coaching, mentoring, and supervision of student-athletes while ensuring a safe, functional, and competition-ready rodeo environment. This position is responsible for coordinating daily arena and facility operations, including setup, maintenance oversight, and grounds readiness for practices, events, and competitions. The role maintains working knowledge of National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and CNFR rules and eligibility requirements, supports compliance efforts, and applies animal care knowledge to monitor livestock health, identify signs of illness, and promote humane handling and welfare standards.

Provide coaching, training, and supervision of student-athletes to support skill development, safety, sportsmanship, and competitive readiness in compliance with program standards and NIRA/CNFR rules. Ensure compliance with NIRA and CNFR rules and eligibility requirements by maintaining working knowledge of regulations, reinforcing standards with student-athletes, and supporting required documentation and communications. Oversee daily arena and facility operations to ensure rodeo facilities are safe, functional, and competition-ready for practices, events, and competitions, including coordination of setup and readiness. Maintain arena footing, grounds, and livestock areas by performing or coordinating grooming, basic maintenance, setup, and post-event restoration necessary for safe and consistent use. Monitor livestock health and welfare by applying animal care knowledge to identify signs of illness, injury, stress, or abnormal behavior and ensuring concerns are reported and addressed promptly.

Knowledge of collegiate rodeo coaching practices, safety standards, and National Intercollegiate Rodeo Association (NIRA) and College National Finals Rodeo (CNFR) rules and eligibility requirements. Knowledge of animal care, livestock welfare, and common equine and rodeo livestock health conditions. Knowledge of arena operations, event preparation, and facility readiness practices. Skilled in coaching, mentoring, and supporting college-age student-athletes in a structured program environment. Skilled in coordinating multiple responsibilities, including coaching support, arena preparation, and rodeo event operations. Skilled in recognizing livestock health, injury, or behavioral concerns and taking appropriate action in accordance with established procedures. Skilled in oral and written communication, including interaction with student-athletes, supervisors, officials, and campus or external partners. Ability to apply NIRA and CNFR rules and eligibility requirements as part of daily program operations. Ability to perform physical work related to arena preparation, grounds maintenance, and event setup in outdoor environments. Ability to organize work, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing schedules and operational needs. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel, as required by competition and program schedules.

High school diploma or equivalent. Experience working in a rodeo, livestock, or equestrian environment through participation, instruction, coaching, or hands-on support. Ability to perform physically demanding work in outdoor environments. Availability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and required travel. Valid driver's license and ability to meet institutional driving requirements.

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Animal Science, Agricultural Education, Equine Science, Kinesiology, Physical Education, Sports Management, or a closely related field, or an equivalent combination of education, training, and relevant experience. Experience working with student-athletes in a competitive rodeo or related athletic environment. Familiarity with collegiate rodeo programs or governing body rules and compliance standards.
