Maintenance Technician

This role provides hands-on electrical support for production lines and facility equipment while working closely with an experienced controls engineer and PLC programmer. You will troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues, execute project-based work such as running cabling and conduit, and contribute to ongoing automation initiatives aimed at improving reliability and reducing downtime across the campus.

Responsibilities

• Train alongside an experienced controls engineer on overnight shifts to learn site-specific systems, standards, and best practices.
• Partner day to day with a PLC programmer on the production floor to support automated equipment and controls.
• Serve as the primary hands-on electrical resource for production calls, responding quickly to issues as they arise.
• Troubleshoot and repair electrical issues on production lines, facility equipment, and campus infrastructure.
• Read and interpret electrical schematics to diagnose faults and identify corrective actions.
• Perform project-based electrical work, including running cabling, installing and running conduit, and wiring components.
• Change out and replace motors and related electrical components as needed to maintain equipment uptime.
• Support mechanical troubleshooting by identifying when electrical issues intersect with mechanical problems and assisting in repairs.
• Work closely with a controls system technician with approximately 8 years of experience to share knowledge and develop skills.
• Participate in proactive projects aligned with site goals to increase automation and reduce downtime.
• Document work performed, including troubleshooting steps, repairs, and modifications to equipment or wiring.
• Follow safety procedures and electrical best practices while working on live and de-energized equipment.

Essential Skills

• 1–2 years of experience in electrical maintenance, industrial maintenance, or a closely related field.
• Proven ability to perform electrical troubleshooting on production equipment and facility systems.
• Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
• Hands-on experience with conduit installation, wiring, and running pipe.
• Experience changing out motors and working with motor-related electrical components.
• Strong troubleshooting skills for both electrical and basic mechanical issues on production equipment.
• Comfort working primarily on the production floor and responding to issues in real time.
• Associate degree in a technical field or equivalent technical competency demonstrated through industry experience.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Engineering degree is strongly preferred but not required if technical competency is demonstrated through experience.
• Experience working alongside PLC programmers or controls engineers in an industrial environment.
• Familiarity with automation projects and initiatives to reduce equipment downtime.
• Ability to collaborate effectively in a buddy system with more experienced controls and systems technicians.
• Strong communication skills to explain issues, discuss troubleshooting steps, and coordinate with operations teams.
• Proactive mindset with an interest in learning new automation technologies and control systems.

Work Environment

This position is primarily based on the production floor, working directly with automated and semi-automated equipment. You will train on overnight shifts with an experienced controls engineer and then partner closely with a PLC programmer during day-to-day operations. The work involves hands-on electrical tasks such as running conduit, pulling and terminating wiring, and servicing motors and facility equipment. The environment is fast-paced and production-oriented, requiring responsiveness to equipment calls and adherence to safety practices while working around live equipment and industrial machinery.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of St. Louis, MO.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $36.05 - $43.00/hr.
