Position Summary

As a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) , you will work under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist (OT) to provide occupational therapy services that help students develop the functional skills needed for success in the classroom and school environment. You'll collaborate closely with Occupational Therapists, teachers, administrators, special education staff, related service providers, and families to implement individualized treatment plans that support each student's educational goals and overall development.

 

What You'll Do

• Implement individualized occupational therapy treatment plans developed by a supervising Occupational Therapist.
• Provide evidence-based therapeutic interventions to improve fine motor skills, visual-motor integration, sensory processing, self-care skills, handwriting, classroom participation, and functional independence.
• Support students in developing the motor, sensory, and adaptive skills necessary to access and participate in their educational program.
• Monitor student progress and communicate observations, barriers, and treatment outcomes to the supervising Occupational Therapist.
• Document therapy sessions accurately in accordance with school district, state, and federal requirements.
• Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, school administrators, related service providers, and families to support student success.
• Educate teachers, staff, and families on strategies, accommodations, adaptive equipment, and classroom modifications that support student participation.
• Assist with implementing recommendations for adaptive equipment, positioning, seating, sensory supports, and environmental modifications as directed by the supervising Occupational Therapist.
• Maintain compliance with all ethical, professional, licensing, district, and state standards.

 

Qualifications

Required

• Associate's degree from an accredited Occupational Therapy Assistant program.
• Current and unrestricted Occupational Therapy Assistant license or certification in the applicable state.
• Strong interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively under the supervision of a licensed Occupational Therapist.
• Commitment to providing compassionate, student-centered services.

 

Preferred

• Previous experience in a school-based, pediatric, early intervention, outpatient pediatric, or educational setting.
• Experience working with students with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorder, sensory processing challenges, orthopedic impairments, neurological conditions, or other disabilities.
• Familiarity with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), educational documentation, and school-based therapy services.

 

Position Details

• Full-Time or Part-Time opportunities available
• School-day schedules based on district needs
• Assignment length varies by location and client
• Start date contingent upon completion of all required credentialing and district onboarding

 

Compliance Requirements

 

Selected candidates must successfully complete all district onboarding requirements prior to their start date, which may include:

• Drug screening (if required by the district)
• Criminal background check and fingerprinting
• Required district orientation and training
• Compliance with applicable immunization requirements
• Adherence to all district attendance, confidentiality, and professional conduct policies
