RN PACU

The Registered Nurse in the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) is responsible for providing skilled nursing care to patients recovering from anesthesia following surgical procedures. This role involves monitoring patient status, managing pain and complications, and collaborating closely with the surgical and anesthesia teams to ensure safe and effective patient recovery. The nurse must maintain adherence to ASPAN standards and demonstrate strong clinical skills, communication, and teamwork in a fast-paced environment. A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to post-operative patients in the PACU, including continuous monitoring of vital signs and patient status.
• Assess patients for complications related to anesthesia and surgery and initiate appropriate interventions.
• Administer medications and treatments as prescribed, including pain management protocols.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams including surgeons, anesthesiologists, and other healthcare providers to develop and implement patient care plans.
• Maintain accurate and timely documentation in patient medical records.
• Ensure PACU bays are staffed and managed according to ASPAN standards.
• Participate in primary and backup on-call rotations including weekends.
• Support and contribute to a cohesive and effective PACU team environment.

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of Illinois.
• Minimum of 2 years nursing experience, preferably including PACU or critical care.
• Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Bachelor's degree in Nursing or related field.
• Driver's license, car insurance, and automobile for field work if applicable.

• Experience working in a PACU or post-anesthesia environment.
• Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) and Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
• Familiarity with ASPAN standards and guidelines.

• On-call schedule includes approximately one primary and one backup call per week, including weekends (6 primary/6 backup calls in a 6-week schedule).
• Work environment includes 15 PACU bays staffed according to ASPAN standards.
• Team-oriented setting requiring strong collaboration and communication.

• Full-time, 40 hours per week.
• Shift assignments and on-call rotations are scheduled to ensure coverage of all PACU bays and patient needs.
