SI Utility LLC manufactures pre-engineered steel utility poles and is the only producer of its kind in West Texas and Eastern New Mexico. As the sister company of Smith Industries, a Midland-based fabrication company serving the Permian Basin since 2004, we are part of a successful and growing business meeting rising demand for grid modernization and energy infrastructure.

We are looking for a seasoned Production Manager to lead our overnight fabrication shift. This is an opportunity to help shape how our operation scales, and strong leadership will not go unnoticed.

Responsibilities

• Safety: Enforce OSHA 1910 and company safety policies, lead safety meetings and incident reviews, and make sure every job is planned with hazards identified (JSA).
• Production: Oversee all overnight production stages, including cutting, welding, galvanizing and finishing. Keep conditions controlled with approved drawings, work instructions, inspection and test plans, calibrated equipment and qualified personnel.
• Planning: Build production plans with Sales and Engineering, sequence work orders, and plan materials based on capacity, equipment reliability and customer commitments.
• Quality: Make sure work meets AWS D1.1, ASTM A123, ASME, ISO 9001:2015 and customer specifications. Manage nonconformances and containment, and work with Quality Assurance on corrective actions.
• Problem solving: Lead root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone) and make sure corrective actions are carried out in production.
• Leadership: Manage supervisors and shop floor employees, and handle training, performance evaluations and accountability.
• Continuous improvement: Put lean manufacturing and 5S practices in place, and record lessons learned in the quality management system.
• Performance: Monitor and report on tons per man-hour, yield, on-time delivery, scrap and rework, equipment uptime, overtime and safety incidents. Review trends weekly and contribute to management reviews.
• Equipment: Schedule preventive maintenance and coordinate repairs with as little disruption as possible.
• Collaboration: Work with Engineering, Procurement, Logistics and Quality, and support internal and third-party audits.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of production leadership experience in steel fabrication or heavy manufacturing, including managing supervisors
• A proven record of improving safety, quality and output
• Working knowledge of ISO 9001:2015, AWS D1.1 and ASTM A123, backed by training, certifications or verifiable experience
• Experience leading lean manufacturing, 5S and root cause analysis efforts
• Strong KPI analysis and reporting skills
• Experience in strategic planning, budgeting and change management
• Professional written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to lead group meetings
• Ability to manage multiple projects and keep a team motivated on tight timelines
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule
• High school diploma or equivalent work experience
