Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) EngineerNokia is seeking an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support EHS operations across its California manufacturing sites in Sunnyvale and San Jose.In this role, you will report to the Site EHS Engineer and assist in a wide range of EHS-related activities, including data collection, safety inspections, and coordination with contractors, vendors, and regulatory agencies. You will also serve as a key point of communication between the two sites, ensuring alignment and consistency in EHS practices.This position plays a critical role in maintaining a safe and compliant work environment for employees working in semiconductor manufacturing, development labs, and office settings.This role requires a strong on-site presence (5 days per week) to support ongoing operations at facilities that run 24/7. Flexibility is essential, as occasional after-hours response may be required to address urgent EHS matters.Your ResponsibilitiesAs an Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer at Nokia, you are responsible for maintaining EHS standards across the Sunnyvale and San Jose manufacturing facilities. This includes ensuring compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, such as those established by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Cal-OSHA, while fostering a safe and healthy work environment.You will collaborate closely with site leadership, employees, contractors, and external stakeholders to identify risks, implement safety initiatives, and drive continuous improvement in environmental and workplace safety performance.Your responsibilities include the following tasks/programs:Manage hazardous waste, including storage, tracking, reporting, and regulatory complianceOversee chemical safety programs (handling, storage, and emergency planning)Support and audit the ISO 14001 Environmental Management System (EMS)Monitoring/performing hygiene assessmentsKnowledgeable in both understanding and implementing OSHA/Cal-OSHA requirementsLead and support Emergency Management and Response activitiesConduct or participate in incident investigations and perform root cause analysisPerform routine site safety inspectionsMonitor and control hazardous chemical usage in accordance with safety standardsLead and manage onsite Emergency Response TeamLeading projects and programs to completionDecision Making and Problem SolvingOwnership/LeadershipTolerance for ChangeRelationship building/TeamworkTaking initiative; Self-starter;Written and spoken communicationYour Skills and ExperienceBachelor's degree in Environmental Health & Safety, Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related field3–5 years of experience in Environmental, Health & Safety or a related disciplineExperience in EHS roles in Telecommunications, semiconductor processing facility or similar operations.Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence and drive safety improvements.Strong organizational and time management skills.Collaborative team player with the ability to lead initiatives and work effectively with internal teams and external stakeholders.Other responsibilities:Work collaboratively within a team environment, providing support and acting as a delegate when needed.Participate in EHS and business unit meetings, forums, and discussions.Prepare and deliver periodic reports on Environmental, Health & Safety performance (both internal and external)More InformationCorporate Retirement Savings PlanHealth and dental benefitsShort-term disability, and long-term disabilityLife insurance, and AD&D – Company paid 2x base payOptional or Supplemental life and AD&D insurance (Employee/Spouse/Child)Paid time off for holidays and VacationEmployee Stock Purchase PlanTuition Assistance PlanAdoption assistanceEmployee Assistance Program/Work Life Resource ProgramThe above benefits exclude students.
