Position Overview

Shana Nelson State Farm in San Jose, CA is looking for an experienced Business Development Representative to join our in-office team. This role pairs a base salary with uncapped sales commission and is built for a proven salesperson who knows how to generate new business, close, and grow a book.

Responsibilities

• Generate new business through proactive outreach to prospects and existing customers
• Set appointments and move prospects through the sales process
• Maintain accurate sales activity and pipeline records in the agency system
• Meet weekly and monthly outreach and production goals
• Quote, close, and cross-sell auto, home, life, and other insurance products

• Are comfortable starting conversations with people who did not ask you to call
• Keep going after a no — most policies are written on the third or fourth contact

• Would rather take care of existing customers than go find new ones

Qualifications

• 3+ years of proven sales experience required; insurance sales experience strongly preferred
• Active Property & Casualty and/or Life & Health license
• Strong phone presence and clear, confident communication
• Self-motivated and comfortable with consistent outreach and follow-up
• Ability to obtain required insurance licenses if not already licensed
• Team-oriented with a positive, coachable attitude

Pay range: $68,500-$110,000 per year

This range reflects expected total compensation—including base salary, commissions, and bonuses—when performance goals are met. Base salary varies based on experience and licensing. Commissions are uncapped, and high performers regularly exceed this range.
