General Summary The Medical Assistant operates within their scope to assist with patient care duties delegated by clinical staff. The ideal candidate is organized, professional, detail-oriented, and able to multitask effectively in a fast-paced environment. Essential Duties and Responsibilities- Adhere to established safety protocols including infection control and safe patient handling.
- Escort patients, obtain vital signs, perform EKGs, verify medications and allergies, and document medical histories accurately.
- Manage phone communications, relay messages, and act as a liaison between patients and providers.
- Communicate test results to patients and assist with follow-up calls.
- Assist with medication renewals, authorizations, and administer medications as ordered (oral, IM, SQ).
- Perform point-of-care lab testing and collect specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Schedule appointments, surgeries, and diagnostic procedures as directed.
- Complete necessary paperwork including prior authorizations and referrals promptly.
- Maintain supply inventory and ensure exam rooms are clean and well-stocked.
- Educate patients on electronic health record access and assist with enrollment.
- Support orientation and training of new medical assistants.
- Demonstrate accountability, teamwork, and maintain excellent attendance and punctuality.
Education Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant or Medical Specialist program is required, or equivalent experience. A high school diploma is mandatory. Experience At least one year of experience as a Medical Assistant or similar role is preferred but not required. Experience in a medical clinic setting is advantageous. Certification and Licenses Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) or Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credentials from an accredited organization such as the American Medical Technologist (AMT) are preferred. Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association is required. Mental and Physical Requirements This role requires significant mental focus and physical activity including lifting up to 35 pounds, frequent walking, standing, bending, and reaching. Exposure to infectious diseases and challenging patient interactions may occur.
