Position Title Child Care Licensing Inspector III Location Austin, TX – 1340 Airport Commerce Dr, Building 5, Ste 525 Posting Information Posting Number: 18617 Closing Date: 08/31/2026 Agency: Health & Human Services Comm Department: Region 7 CCL DC Field Ops Salary Range: $3,409.83 - $4,250.00 (Monthly) Shift: Day (First) | Telework: Eligible | Travel: Up to 75% Regular/Temporary: Regular | Full Time/Part Time: Full time | FLSA Exempt/Non‑Exempt: Nonexempt Job Purpose Child‑care regulation inspectors work as a collaborative team monitoring and investigating child‑care facilities throughout the State of Texas. Team members perform facility inspections, conduct investigations in child‑care facilities and homes, provide training to child‑care providers, and convene pre‑application meetings for child‑care facility applicants. Essential Job Functions Monitors licensed and registered child‑care facilities, documents compliance or noncompliance with standards, and notifies providers of any required corrective action in accordance with CCR policy. Includes monitoring for timely completion of inspections, follow‑up inspections, feedback on waivers and variances, application and permit fee payments, background check results, controlling persons identification, and permit renewals. (30%) Investigates complaints and allegations of minimum standard violations in licensed child‑care facilities and homes. Completes investigation initiations and actions timely and accurately within required time frames and documents findings thoroughly. (25%) Evaluates new applications for child‑care facilities to issue permits. Manages application processing according to law, rules, and policy time frames. (15%) Identifies risk and recommends referral to Child‑Care Enforcement (CCE) when necessary. Processes provider plans of action and conducts post‑enforcement inspections to evaluate compliance. (10%) Provides training and technical assistance to child‑care providers. Attends or presents at provider meetings and conducts useful, outcome‑oriented trainings. (10%) Responds to emergency complaints of high‑risk situations in licensed operations. (5%) Performs other duties as assigned to maintain unit operations. (5%) Registrations, Licensure Requirements or Certifications Valid driver’s license. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs) Knowledge of Texas laws and regulation. Ability to travel. Initial Screening Criteria Graduation from an accredited four‑year college or university or experience that is equivalent to a four‑year degree. Experience and education may be substituted for one another on a year‑to‑year basis. Experience in regulatory services such as inspections and investigations is preferred. Additional Experience Required for Higher Levels Inspector IV: Experience in regulatory services including experience as a regulatory inspector. Experience performing highly complex inspection and/or investigation work under limited supervision. Experience establishing priorities and methods for securing evidence and assessing programs and procedures to improve operations. Inspector V: Experience in regulatory services including experience as a regulatory inspector or investigator. Experience performing inspection and/or investigation work under minimal supervision. Experience leading, mentoring, and/or supervising a team in some capacity. Experience may include testifying at administrative hearings or before courts of jurisdiction and developing/delivering specialized inspection training or educational sessions. Additional Information Work hours are flexible and may include occasional work during evenings and weekends. This position may qualify for 100% telework with most work conducted through mobile technology.
