Job Description University Police Department (UPD), Southern Command invites applications for University Police Officer 1 (PO1) – multiple positions are open. The Officer will work under general supervision, performing journey‑level law‑enforcement duties, including protecting university employees, students and the public; patrolling and safeguarding university properties and surrounding areas; conducting traffic, criminal and non‑criminal investigations; preparing for security and law‑enforcement activities surrounding special events; appearing in court; maintaining and performing special assignments related to peace‑officer functions; and maintaining law and order, among other duties.

DEPARTMENT INFORMATION

The department is a full‑service police department comprising patrol operations, administration, police dispatch and a detective division. Services include canine, walking and bicycle patrols and a proactive selective traffic enforcement program. The patrol area covers all Nevada System of Higher Education facilities in the Las Vegas metropolitan area.

TESTING NOTICE

All qualified candidates will be required to complete written and physical testing. Successful candidates must also complete the Nevada POST Physical Fitness Test as part of the Academy requirements. A comprehensive background check will be conducted. Required Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in public contact work that included application of rules, regulations or established procedures. A valid driver’s license is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of continuing employment. Applicants may be subjected to psychological testing which may include polygraph testing. Applicants must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code.

SALARY

Grade 36 Step 1, salary $68,590.80. Step 1 is the starting step within the grade per Nevada Administrative Code (NAC 284.170).
