University Police Officer I University Police Department (UPD), Southern Command invites applications for University Police Officer 1 (PO1). Responsibilities Provide journey‑level law enforcement duties, including protecting university employees, students, and the general public. Patrol and safeguard university system properties and surrounding areas. Conduct traffic investigations. Conduct criminal and non‑criminal investigations. Prepare for security and law enforcement activities surrounding special events. Prepare for appearances in court. Perform maintenance on assigned equipment. Execute special assignments related to law enforcement and peace officer functions. Maintain law and order, as well as any other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Graduation from high school or equivalent education and one year of experience in public contact work involving application of rules, regulations, or established procedures. Must have passed a certified police academy and obtained a category 1 POST certification, completed field training, and achieved permanent status as a Police Officer 1. Must submit to a pre‑employment screening for controlled substances. A valid driver’s licence is required at the time of appointment and as a condition of ongoing employment. Applicants may be subjected to psychological and polygraph testing. Must meet minimum standards for appointment as a peace officer as established in the Nevada Revised Statutes and Nevada Administrative Code. Testing & Background Checks All qualified candidates will be required to complete written and physical testing. A comprehensive background check will be conducted for the candidate(s) selected for employment. All applicants must also successfully complete the NEVADA POST Physical Fitness Test as part of the Academy requirements. Salary Grade 36 Step 1, salary $68,590.80.
