Library & Community Learning Coordinator

POSITION SUMMARY The CEB Librarian & Community Learning Coordinator manages and activates the CEB Library as a school, family, and community learning hub serving children, teens, young adults, parents, caregivers, educators, and community members. The position maintains the core library administration, circulation, collection development, literacy, and school-partner responsibilities of the CEB Librarian while expanding the role's responsibility for academic support, out-of-school-time (OST) learning, family engagement, and community education. The Coordinator works closely with CEB staff, school partners, volunteers, part-time staff, community organizations, and other partners to create accessible learning opportunities throughout the school day and during designated after-school and evening hours. The position will help ensure that the Library is not only a place to access books and information, but also a welcoming place where community members can read, study, receive academic support, set goals, develop new skills, participate in discussions, and connect with people and resources. KEY ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Library Administration & Literacy Maintain the core responsibilities of the CEB Librarian, including circulation, collection development and maintenance, library systems, resource management, library policies and procedures, opening and closing, and promotion of library services. The current position also calls for creating an environment conducive to participatory learning and collaboration with teaching staff. Promote reading and multiple forms of literacy—including textual, digital, media, mathematical, and financial literacy—through collections, instruction, partnerships, and programming. Academic & OST Support Coordinate academic support opportunities for students during designated out-of-school-time hours. Recruit, organize, orient, schedule, and support volunteers and part-time staff who provide tutoring, homework assistance, reading support, mentoring, academic skill-building, and other learning supports. Work with students to promote academic goal setting, help them identify areas where they need support, connect them with appropriate tutors/resources, and encourage progress toward their goals. Coordinate with schools, educators, families, and CEB partners so that academic supports complement students' classroom learning rather than duplicate it. Develop structured but welcoming OST opportunities that can include homework help, tutoring, study groups, reading support, research assistance, and enrichment. Reading & Relationship-Building Programs Organize and support Lunch Bunch, reading circles, book clubs, read-alouds, and other small-group opportunities that use books and discussion to strengthen literacy, relationships, belonging, and student voice. Develop reading circles and discussion opportunities appropriate for different ages and interests, including children, teens, adults, and intergenerational groups. Family & Community Learning Develop learning opportunities for parents, caregivers, teens, and adults based on community interest and available partners. Where appropriate and where there is demonstrated interest, coordinate media literacy and learning circles that help participants explore topics such as evaluating information, understanding news and social media, digital citizenship, navigating online resources, financial information, educational resources, and other topics identified by participants. Create opportunities for parent education that support families in understanding and supporting their children's learning, educational goals, literacy, and access to resources. The emphasis should be on facilitating access and bringing together appropriate expertise rather than expecting the Librarian to personally be the expert or instructor on every topic. Speakers, Programs & Partnerships Identify and bring in guest speakers, facilitators, organizations, educators, and community partners who can provide programs responsive to the interests of students, families, and the broader CEB community. Develop a calendar of workshops, conversations, demonstrations, author/speaker visits, learning circles, and special programs. Partner with CEB resident organizations, schools, libraries, universities, nonprofits, businesses, and community members to expand available learning opportunities. This builds directly on the existing position's responsibility to serve as a liaison with outside organizations, coordinate outreach, develop programs for children through adults, manage the events calendar, and implement after-school activities. VOLUNTEER & PART‑TIME STAFF COORDINATION The Coordinator will: Help recruit and match volunteers and part-time staff to tutoring, reading, academic support, and program needs. Develop clear schedules and assignments for OST support. Provide basic orientation, resources, and expectations for volunteers and PT staff. Coordinate coverage so that students and community members have reliable access to support. Maintain appropriate communication with CEB staff, school partners, and families. Help assess participation, needs, gaps, and opportunities for improvement. WORK SCHEDULE & COMMUNITY ACCESS Full time 40-hour-per-week position with a flexible schedule designed to provide both school-day and out-of-school-time access to the Library.
