Finance & Accounting Manager

Association Overview The Home Builders Association of Greater Kansas City (KCHBA) believes in homeownership for all. We are an established 501(c)6 made up of home-building professionals serving the communities and residents of the greater Kansas City metropolitan area by promoting housing opportunities for everyone. Responsibilities Develop and uphold financial operating procedures in line with nonprofit best practices, ensuring the responsible management of our organization's assets. Drive financial sustainability by overseeing the Association's financial condition and holding teams accountable to their budgets. Executes invoicing and A/R responsibly, managing the full invoicing cycle and proactively following up on outstanding balances to ensure timely, accurate payment collection and healthy cash flow. Maintains A/P system by logging and paying invoices and issuing approved refunds in accordance with cash management protocol. Manage payroll responsibilities, including tracking PTO and employee benefits via a payroll service provider. Executes the month-end close process and prepares accurate financial reports within tight deadlines to support timely, data-driven business decisions. Present financial reports to Staff, Board, and Executive Committee, offering comprehensive insights into the impact of our programs. Lead the Finance Committee in the collaborative establishment of an annual budget that supports our nonprofit goals. Manage the annual audit process, ensuring transparency and accountability to our Board of Directors and our commitment to nonprofit best practices. Compile necessary information for the preparation of Forms 990 and 990-T. Implement Board/audit-approved recommendations promptly and effectively to enhance our nonprofit operations. Uphold the Association's Bylaws and written policies, aligning them with our nonprofit mission and goals. Oversee our insurance coverage, ensuring it aligns with nonprofit best practices for sound coverage and asset protection. Record transactions for the KCHBA's four political action committees (PACs) and prepare related Missouri and Kansas Ethics Reports in collaboration with Community Relations staff. Ensure that federal and state registrations are maintained for the KCHBA and Home Builders Association of Missouri (HBAM). Support the reconciliation of monthly membership reports for Staff, Board, and Executive Committee in coordination with the Membership and Partnerships Manager. Attend, participate in, and support KCHBA meetings, events, and other gatherings that may, on occasion, occur outside of normal business hours. Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Accounting. Strong understanding of accrual based accounting. Minimum three (3) years' experience with QuickBooks, online edition. Proven experience in financial management with a commitment to nonprofit best practices. Strong knowledge of financial reporting and budgeting processes within a nonprofit context. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, driven by a passion for our nonprofit mission. Ability to lead and facilitate committees effectively and collaboratively in support of our goals. Detail-oriented with a focus on accuracy to maintain the integrity of our financial processes. Familiarity with nonprofit payroll processes and employee benefits administration. Experience in developing and implementing organizational policies with a nonprofit perspective. Familiarity or experience with Stripe payment processing is a plus.
