Registered Nurse PCU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse in the Progressive Care Unit (PCU) provides specialized nursing care to patients with cardiac and medical conditions such as CHF, TAVR, sepsis, arrhythmias, chest pain, syncope, and pacemaker management. The role involves patient assessment, medication administration, monitoring cardiac drips, managing groin sites, and collaborating with the healthcare team to deliver high-quality care. The nurse must be skilled in cardiac telemetry and PCU protocols and able to work effectively in a fast-paced acute care environment. Responsibilities:

• Provide skilled nursing care to patients with cardiac and medical diagnoses in the PCU.
• Perform patient assessments and monitor vital signs, including cardiac telemetry.
• Administer medications and manage cardiac drips as prescribed.
• Manage temporary pacemakers, sheath pulls, and groin site care.
• Assist with cardioversion and other cardiac procedures.
• Document patient care and interventions accurately using EPIC electronic medical records.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement treatment plans.
• Provide patient education and support for cardiac and medical conditions.
• Respond to emergencies and changes in patient condition promptly.
• Adhere to hospital policies and procedures for infection control and patient safety.

Required Skills & Certifications:

• Active Registered Nurse license in the state of practice.
• BLS certification required.
• Experience in cardiac telemetry, PCU, or telemetry nursing.
• Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills.
• Proficiency in EPIC or similar electronic health record systems.
• Ability to manage cardiac drips and temporary pacemaker care.
• Excellent communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Skills & Certifications:

• ACLS certification preferred.
• Experience with TAVR, sepsis management, and advanced cardiac care.
• Previous experience in short-term acute care or similar hospital settings.

Special Considerations:

• Must be able to work 12-hour shifts from 1900 to 0730.
• Weekend coverage required every other weekend.
• Floating to like units within scope of practice may be required.
• Work environment includes acute care with complex cardiac patients.

Scheduling:

• Three 12-hour night shifts per week (1900-0730).
• Schedule includes every other weekend coverage.
• Shift assignments based on unit staffing needs and floating requirements.
