Overview Medical Assistant, Lead - Stony Brook Emergency Physicians, UFPC Location: Commack, NY Schedule: Full Time Days/Hours: Open 7 days/Rotating Pay: $22.31 - 27.88 Our compensation philosophy aims to provide marketable compensation programs and to compensate employees based on relevant experience and education. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents Stony Brook CPMP’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting Responsibilities SUMMARY: This position requires the Lead Medical Assistant to provide support to physicians and other clinical staff. The Lead Medical Assistant performs routine clinical and clerical work. Job Responsibilities: Place patients in the examination rooms and document using the electronic medical record, medications, vitals and main reason for the visit. Perform screening and measuring procedures, which include but is not limited to, height, weight, blood pressure, pulse, temperature. Assist with setting up and preparing the patient and equipment for exams and special procedures as needed. Daily checks on all equipment at Hampton Bays, trouble shoots any malfunctions. Collect blood or other laboratory specimens as requested by physician. Perform routine laboratory tests. Enter proposed orders into Electrical Medical Record for licensed independent provider review and approval. Obtain previous test results from outside labs, radiology, physicians’ offices, etc. Explain treatment procedures, medications, diets and physicians’ instructions to the patient in a clear and effective manner. Supervise instrument sterilization and proper packaging for transport Maintain an adequate supply of medical inventory in each exam room. Perform complete monthly inventory of all supplies at Hampton Bays. Ensure the cleanliness of each exam room. Prepare rooms after each patient and for specific procedures as needed. Order supplies as needed. Ensure HIPAA and OSHA guidelines are followed at all times. Train all new incoming MAs and LPNs, shows them the work flow of all the 8 different departments that come to Hampton Bays. Collaborate with management to promote a high level of employee engagement through creation and maintenance of a professional, effective, efficient, rewarding and inclusive working atmosphere. Work closely with management ensuring completion of Daily Opening and Closing Procedures Oversee all the daily PVPs for all the different departments, and trouble shoot any problems. Keep track of daily work duties and assist with monthly meetings to promote efficient workflow. Perform administrative duties when needed; answering phones, scheduling appointments, etc. Create and update telephone encounters when reporting and responding to patients’ medical concerns and requests; forward to appropriate staff and medical providers. Adhere to protocol for patient flow (1. Reception, 2. Registration, 3. Triage, 4. Labs, 5. Escort to Provider). Adhere to Visit Completion Protocol (1. Receive encounter and referral forms, 2. Schedule next appointments, 3. Schedule outside referrals at appointed time, 4. Update visit log). Assist with the front desk, checking patients in and collecting copays, when there is a staff shortage. Assisting with staff scheduling, maintaining a proper staff rotation. Phlebotomy Perform all other related duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Required Qualifications: High school diploma/GED. Graduate of a Medical Assistant program. 3 years of experience as Medical Assistant Must have knowledge of medical terminology. Must have exceptional customer service and telephone etiquette. Must have ability to maintain effective and organized systems to ensure timely patient flow. Must have computer and/or EMR experience. Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to communicate with patients, staff and medical providers.The employee must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.This position is active and requires the employee to constantly move about in the office to assist patients, staff and medical providers.
