- Master's Degree in School Administration
- Working knowledge of computers, student information software, general office procedures and accounting practices using computerized software. (Some computer skills may be gained after employment)
- Superintendent or Superintendent's designee
- Faculty, staff and students in assigned school.
- Provide effective leadership in planning, developing, implementing and evaluating the instructional program.
- Interpret and enforce federal, state and local Board's policies and laws.
- Assist in recruiting, screening, selecting and assigning of the school's certified and classified staff.
- Assist in securing, maintaining and managing material resources.
- Prepare and administer the school budget and supervise school finances.
- Assume responsibility for scheduling.
- Ensure students receive appropriate placement and services.
- Plan and accomplish personal professional growth and demonstrate professional ethics.
- Demonstrate proficiency in written and oral communication.
- Provide professional opportunities for staff.
- Communicate and clarify the school's mission to students, staff and community.
- Provide a safe, orderly environment that facilitates teaching and learning.
- Provide a climate of high expectations for staff and students.
- Supervises, observe and evaluate teachers and staff.
- Maintain the confidentiality of student records.
- To open and close the school each day at the time fixed by the County Board of Education.
- Must provide a schedule which includes six hours of actual teaching. Actual teaching as required by the Alabama Code means that recess, class change time and lunch cannot be counted as a part of the six hours.
- To teach, or cause to be taught, all items required by federal, state or local Board guidelines.
- To serve as custodian of the school property and to report monthly in writing to the Superintendent any misuse of same or repairs needed thereon, and at the close of the term to furnish said Superintendent an inventory of equipment and supplies on hand (unless requested earlier) and a list of items or repairs needed for the opening of the succeeding term.
- To conduct fire and tornado drills monthly including posted escape routes and to follow safety instructions as provided by Civil Defense Authorities (Document in nSide).
- To inspect his/her school periodically for fire and safety hazards.
- To cause the display of the United States and Alabama State flags.
- To follow all required guidelines incorporating character education and patriotism.
- To submit a class schedule to the Superintendent by the scheduling deadlines on forms provided by the Superintendent and to submit notice of changes when they occur for approval by the Superintendent and Board.
- All accredited high schools must send a copy of the accreditation reports to the Superintendent not later than the deadline given by the State Department of Education for such reports, signed by the main administrator of the school. (Includes summer school accreditation papers)
- Principals shall be required to visit each classroom as directed by Teaching Effectiveness, local board, state and federal regulations and requirements.
- To assign students equitably among the teachers in his/her building in accordance with federal, state and local board regulations.
- Universal Screening Benchmark will be given to all pupils along with other required and necessary tests. Semester test schedules will be followed as directed by the Superintendent.
- To ensure all free textbooks furnished by the state and county are monitored and inventoried as required by local, state and federal guidelines.
- To hold a reasonable number of faculty meetings and professional in-service meetings after school hours or as required by the board.
- To properly schedule teachers so that they will be teaching in their fields as required by federal, state and local guidelines.
- To obtain written resignation from any staff member intending to terminate his/her service and to furnish a copy of same to the Superintendent within a reasonable time from the effective date of resignation.
- To select, for recommendation to the Superintendent, qualified custodians, clerical employees, teacher aides and lunchroom personnel for the school and see that all necessary forms are completed before adding employees to payroll.
- To select the best qualified substitute teacher available when a regular teacher is absent. To inform substitutes that he/she must have a certificate on file in the Superintendent's office before receiving pay for days worked.
- To see that all materials and equipment shall be kept in good condition and used economically.
- To coordinate schedules with the Technology Center.
- To work with transportation supervisors on selection of bus drivers and determination of bus stops and bus routes. Also to be present (or designee) for the arrival of buses in the mornings and the loading and departure of buses in the afternoon.
- To sign necessary legal papers, warrants, etc. in the event of damages to individuals or to school property or in case of misdemeanors or other action requiring the principal's signature.
- To be responsible for the distribution of all materials and information to the correct personnel as designated by the state department or the superintendent's office.
- Shall be responsible for the enforcement of all local board policies and all state and federal policies and regulations.
- To observe any other rule and regulations relative to the service of principal, which may be made by the County Board of Education.
- Shall perform any other position related duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
- Salary and work year to be according to the current salary schedule for high school administrators and principals.
- Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provision of the Board's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
