Position's Contributions to Work Group:
The primary responsibilities will be to utilize analytical techniques to develop and validate cooling systems used in construction, mining, power generation, marine applications and locomotives. These applications can include internal combustion engines or battery electric systems.

Typical task breakdown:
Utilize analytical techniques (1-D and 3-D simulation tools) to provide simulation support for electrification projects across various platforms, as well as cooling performance simulation for diesel-powered applications. This includes conducting 1-D system simulation for up-front system sizing and component selection for cooling systems as well as performing high-end Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) simulation for virtual design and validation.
It is critical to have good communication skills to effectively collaborate with the various product development teams to deliver validated design solutions to our challenging program deliverables and timelines simultaneously. You must foster strong collaboration with our design, system, and validation partners.
• Conduct application specific cooling system analysis projects
• Develop cooling system layouts, component selection, sizing and optimizing the cooling air and water systems using 1-D simulation tools
• Collaborate with design partners to meet technical and regulatory requirements
• Conduct component CFD to determine performance characteristics
• Develop CFD models to understand air flow through cooling packages
• Develop underhood thermal CFD models to predict component temperatures
• Collaborate with test engineers and correlate analysis models
• Perform analysis to assist in resolving cooling-related field problems
• Contribute to improvements in simulation methods and processes
• Help to establish technical requirements and specifications for new products



T he job duties/responsibilities may include, but are not limited to selection of cooling system layouts, sizing and selection of heat exchangers and fans using 1D tools, CFD analysis of cooling components such as pumps, radiators and aftercoolers, CFD analysis of underhood environments to assess airflow and component temperatures, correlating analysis results to test, communicating analysis results, suggesting design improvements to product development teams, determining the root cause of issues and continually developing and improving analysis processes and tools.

Education & Experience Required:
• Bachelor's degree in engineering (Mechanical, Agricultural, Aerospace engineering or similar preferred)
• Relevant engineering experience:
o Bachelor's degree: 2+ years
o Master's degree: 1+ years
o Doctorate degree
• 1+ years of engineering experience with at least 1 year focused on cooling system performance for product development with 1D and CFD system simulation experience,
• Strong background and interest in thermo-sciences
• Clear verbal and written communication skills
• Project management skills allowing for handling of multiple projects and priorities
Top Candidates will also have:
• Master or Doctorate degree in Mechanical, Agricultural or Aerospace engineering
• Strong technical knowledge with the ability to communicate technical information effectively with team members and others in the work group, and process partners
• Working knowledge of engine, lubrication/ powertrain cooling and/or electrification systems
• 2+ years of experience using Fluent, 1-D analysis tools (i.e., GT-Suite) and Creo

Top Skills

R equired: Strong background in thermo-sciences (courses in fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer).
Desired: 1D or 3D cooling component or system analysis experience. Proficiency with CFD tools such as Fluent, Star CCM+ or OpenFOAM. Proficiency in at least one programming language such as Python, C++ or Java. Working knowledge of diesel engines, powertrain cooling and/or electrification systems. Experience using 1D analysis tools such as GT-Suite. Proficiency with meshing tools such as ANSA or ANSYS Workbench/SpaceClaim. Experience using CAD packages such as Creo. Knowledge of product development processes for machines, engines and battery/electric systems. Project management skills allowing for handling of multiple projects and priorities.
