Senior Principal Scientist, Bioprocess Development

Pfizer seeks a Senior Principal Scientist to lead the Polysaccharide Fermentation and Purification Development group within Vaccines. The role involves directing upstream and downstream bioprocess development, managing a technical team, and advancing scalable manufacturing processes from early development through technology transfer.

Responsibilities

• Lead and mentor a team of upstream and downstream process development scientists and engineers
• Develop robust, scalable, and transferable manufacturing processes for polysaccharide-based vaccines
• Define process development strategy, align technical plans with program objectives, and inform decisions with scientific evidence
• Lead technology transfer strategy to clinical manufacturing sites and coordinate process documentation and risk assessments
• Drive adoption of emerging bioprocess technologies, automation, and data-driven approaches to enhance efficiency and quality

Requirements

• PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Microbiology, Biochemistry, or related discipline
• Minimum 8 years of relevant bioprocess development experience
• Demonstrated expertise in vaccine process development, particularly polysaccharides or conjugate vaccines
• Hands-on technical proficiency in microbial fermentation and polysaccharide purification
• Strong knowledge of polysaccharide critical quality attributes, design of experiments, and process characterization
• Experience authoring development reports, technology-transfer packages, and CMC regulatory content
• Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams and drive complex vaccine programs to completion

Compensation: $124,400–$207,400 base, plus 17.5% bonus target and long-term incentive eligibility
