The length will be from November 2026 until June 2027. The daily rate is $350 per day. Must hold a valid clinical license issued by the state Allied Mental Health or Social Work boards (e.g., LCSW, LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or LRC ). The Student Adjustment Counselor is responsible for the supervision of all students within their assignment, is committed to the Atlantis Charter School Board of Trustees policies regarding equity, human rights and cross cultural understanding and reports directly to the Principal or their designee. Under the direction of the Principal or their designee, the Student Adjustment Counselor shall adhere to national, state, and local statutes, policies, and regulations regarding counseling and assist students in the development of social emotional skills and developmental assets. REPORTS TO: Principal SUPERVISION : None ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: While actual roles and responsibilities will vary depending on individual circumstances, the Student Adjustment Counselor will generally be required to perform some or all of the following tasks. Note that this list is not all-inclusive and that the administrator may also assign other tasks he/she deems appropriate. Maintains the highest and most appropriate learning expectations of students at all times. Counsels students, in a group or individual setting, whose behavior, school progress, or mental or physical handicap or condition indicates the need for assistance. Encourages parents and students to participate in the learning process through frequent and meaningful communication about classroom activities and student progress. Assists teachers and staff in behavioral interventions and strategies to assist learning. Develops and implements a positive system of student recognition. System encourages students to engage in positive behaviors and/or decrease negative behaviors Regularly consults with parents, teachers, and other school personnel to determine causes of problems and develops solutions such as recommending a change of class or school, special tutoring, or other treatment to assist in helping students succeed. Provides bullying and character education to students to improve student functioning and maintain a safe and positive school environment and culture. Ensures that all students are offered equitable opportunities to participate in school activities. Connects faculty and parents to appropriate resources to address student's needs. Follows up with parents or faculty as needed and answers questions. Consistently provides parents with clear, user-friendly expectations for student behavior. Suggests strategies for supporting positive behavior at school and home. Regularly uses two-way communication with families about student growth and responds promptly and carefully to communications from families. Always communicates respectfully with families and demonstrates understanding of and sensitivity to different families' home language, culture and values. Uses a variety of strategies to support every family to participate actively and appropriately in the school community. Demonstrates sensitivity to cultural differences and encourage appreciation of diversity. Assists the Principal to facilitate behavioral RtI meetings to ensure the implementation of effective interventions and strategies on behalf of the student Utilizes effective behavioral assessments for diagnostic evaluations. Uses appropriate techniques to alter attitudes and behavior of parents and teachers that cause or aggravate problems. Utilizes the school's protocols and procedures to respond appropriately to crisis situations, including filing 51A's and conducting student risk assessments. Presents results of testing to staff and parents in a timely, effective and professional manner. Maintains appropriate learning expectations of students at all times. Ensures students are offered equitable opportunities to participate in school activities. Uses rituals, routines, and appropriate responses that create and maintain a safe physical and intellectual environment where students take academic risks and most behaviors that interfere with learning are prevented. Develops students’ interpersonal, group, and communication skills and provides opportunities for students to learn in groups with diverse peers. Consistently uses strategies and practices that are likely to enable students to demonstrate respect for and affirm their own and others’ differences related to background, identity, language, strengths, and challenges. Anticipates and responds appropriately to conflicts or misunderstandings arising from differences in backgrounds, languages, and identities. Effectively models and reinforces ways that students can set and accomplish challenging goals through effective effort, rather than having to depend on innate ability. Contributes to a college and career ready culture within the school by providing classroom activities, group counseling, or individual sessions that promote equity and access by supporting all students to prepare for, participate in, and succeed in rigorous academic programs. Contributes to development, coordination and implementation of effective strategies for grade-to-grade, school-to-school and school-to-post-secondary transitions for all students. Assesses the effectiveness of transition planning in positively impacting student achievement. Provides all students with timely exposure to a wide range of post-secondary options; regularly provides feedback on all students' post-secondary plans; and utilizes various career assessment techniques to assist students in understanding and developing their career abilities and interests Regularly reflects on the effectiveness of interactions with students, both individually and with colleagues, and uses insights gained to improve practice and student outcomes. Additional Requirements Consistently seeks out and applies, when appropriate, ideas for improving practice from supervisors, colleagues, professional development activities, and other resources to gain expertise and/or assume different counseling and leadership responsibilities. Consistently and effectively collaborates with colleagues in such work as planning appropriate interventions. Within and beyond the classroom, consistently reinforces school-wide behavior and learning expectations for all students, and contributes to their learning by sharing responsibility for meeting their needs. Consistently contributes relevant ideas and expertise to planning and decision making at the school, department, and/or grade level. Demonstrates sound judgment reflecting integrity, honesty, fairness, and trustworthiness and protects student confidentiality appropriately. Consistently fulfills professional responsibilities; is consistently punctual and reliable with paperwork, duties, and assignments; and is rarely late or absent from school. Performs other duties as assigned; Cultural Standards Establishes and maintains cooperative and effective working relationships with all members of school community to carry out responsibilities; Interacts professionally with a diverse range of constituents; Maintains an attendance record that meets or exceeds an acceptable standard as defined by ACS policy.
