Salary : $97,000 - $105,000 a year Johns Hopkins University: Bloomberg School of Public Health: Department of International Health Description The Department of International Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health is conducting a search for an Assistant Scientist (non-tenure track faculty) with expertise in artificial intelligence (AI), with a particular focus on applications to health systems and global health. The faculty member will contribute to research programs within the Health Systems Program in the Department of International Health and will work closely with faculty and interdisciplinary collaborators across Johns Hopkins University. The position will have a strong technical and computational focus, with particular emphasis on developing and deploying advanced AI systems, including agentic AI, for real-world public health and health systems applications. The successful candidate will contribute to SafeRoads AI and related research initiatives that integrate artificial intelligence with public health and health systems research. Areas of application may include injury prevention, road safety, health systems, and other global health challenges. The candidate will be expected to translate state-of-the-art AI methods into scalable, functional research tools and applications that can be deployed and evaluated in real-world settings. Responsibilities will include hands-on development and implementation of AI systems; methodological and computational research; data management and analysis; preparation of scientific manuscripts; development of research proposals; and collaboration with interdisciplinary research teams. The successful candidate will also contribute technical expertise to the development of new AI-focused research initiatives across the Health Systems Program and the Department of International Health. The candidate will be expected to contribute to the development and pursuit of externally funded research and to build a strong portfolio of rigorous, interdisciplinary research at the intersection of artificial intelligence, public health, and health systems. Qualifications Educational Qualifications: Candidates should have a PhD in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, or another closely related computational discipline. Research and Publication Experience: Applicants should have a strong demonstrated record of scientific research and peer-reviewed publications. Experience conducting interdisciplinary research involving artificial intelligence, machine learning, data science, or related computational methods is highly desirable. Technical Expertise: Candidates should have extensive hands-on programming and software development experience and strong methodological and computational skills. Demonstrated experience developing and deploying advanced AI systems is required. Experience with agentic AI systems, AI agents, and agentic coding workflows is particularly desirable. Communication and Collaboration: Candidates should have strong written and oral communication skills and demonstrated ability to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including researchers from public health, medicine, engineering, computer science, and related disciplines. Salary Range The referenced salary range represents the minimum and maximum salaries for this position and is based on Johns Hopkins University's good faith belief at the time of posting. Not all candidates will be eligible for the upper end of the salary range. The actual compensation offered to the selected candidate may vary and will ultimately depend on multiple factors, which may include the successful candidate's geographic location, skills, work experience, internal equity, market conditions, education/training and other factors, as reasonably determined by the University.
