Senior Tax Accountant – Public Accounting

A well-established CPA firm in downtown Bethesda is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Senior Tax Accountant with 3+ years of current public accounting experience to join our team. This is an excellent opportunity for a tax professional who enjoys working directly with clients, expanding technical expertise, and building a long-term career in public accounting.

Responsibilities

• Prepare individual and business income tax returns, including Forms 1040, 1065, 1041, and 1120.
• Review financial statements and supporting documentation for accuracy and completeness.
• Conduct tax research and assist with identifying appropriate tax treatments and planning opportunities.
• Communicate directly with clients to obtain information, answer routine tax questions, and resolve outstanding items.
• Manage multiple assignments and meet filing deadlines while maintaining a high standard of accuracy.
• Stay current with applicable federal and state tax laws and regulations.
• Collaborate with firm professionals to deliver responsive, high-quality client service.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of recent public accounting experience preparing individual and business income tax returns.
• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred.
• Proficiency with professional tax preparation software, such as CCH Axcess, CCH ProSystem fx, Thomson Reuters UltraTax CS .
• Strong knowledge of federal and state income tax rules and a demonstrated ability to research tax issues.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and general office productivity software.
• Excellent organizational, analytical, written, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work on site in Bethesda, manage competing priorities, and meet deadlines.
• CPA license, CPA eligibility, or progress toward the CPA designation is a plus.

Compensation and Benefits

• Starting salary $75,000 and above scaling commensurate with experience and qualifications.
