Overview Texas Oncology is looking for a Clinical Social Worker to join our team. This position supports the Medical Center at 5206 Research Dr., San Antonio, Tx 78240. Hours are 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Occasional travel to Fredericksburg, Kerrville, and Boerne. What does the Clinical Social Worker do? Participates in assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of mental, emotional, and behavioral disorders for patients requiring emotional and psycho-social assistance. Provides knowledge of agencies and organizations offering emotional, physical, social, and financial services to patients and families. Supports and adheres to the US Oncology Compliance Program, including the Code of Ethics and Business Standards. Responsibilities Provides therapeutic counseling to patients, family members, and caregivers; assesses, diagnoses, and treats mental, emotional, and behavioral issues. If billing, documents session notes and billing requirements in a timely fashion. Demonstrates strong knowledge of the psychosocial impact of cancer on the patient and family system throughout the continuum of cancer care, including diagnosis, advanced cancer, end of life care, and survivorship. Knowledge of practical implications such as financial distress, relationship changes, custody planning, caregiver demands, advance care planning, psychological distress, and spiritual/existential distress. Provides emotional support and crisis assessment/interventions; offers non-pharmacologic support for pain, sleep issues, and other physical concerns. Active member of the medical interdisciplinary team; maintains ongoing communication with team members to facilitate understanding and support of identified patient and family needs. Participates in Value Based Care initiatives including distress and depression screening follow-up, advance care planning, end-of-life conversations and transitions. If billing, documents notes and billing requirements promptly. Assists and supports patients and families with transition to survivorship and related issues. Meets with patients and families to administer, assess, and provide appropriate follow-up of psychosocial needs assessments. Considers social support, appropriate community resources, and coping mechanisms. Develops, maintains, and facilitates support groups to enhance care quality and support for patients and families. Coordinates support groups with local agencies and health care providers to prevent duplication and better address patient needs. Provides education to clinic staff on skills and knowledge specific to the role of a clinical social worker; serves as a resource and expert on managing psychological needs, social and behavioral determinants of health care outcomes, compassion fatigue, and secondary trauma among staff. Provides information about appropriate community resources to patients and families. Develops and maintains working relationships with community agencies, health care organizations, and other providers to promote broad support for patients and families. Acts as a patient/family advocate in negotiating the health care system; facilitates communication between patient/family and medical team. Documents all interventions in EMR accurately, appropriately, and timely. If billing, documents notes and billing requirements promptly. Provides professional presentations to groups and organizations to facilitate public understanding of psycho-social and psychological aspects of the cancer experience. Participates in quality improvement activities; may oversee staff providing coordination of Social Services. As appropriate, supervises MSW Student Interns; reviews candidates, mentors, and provides documentation training. Demonstrates knowledge of age-specific differences in patient populations (late adolescence, adulthood, middle age, elderly), including physiological, psychological, and developmental differences unique to each group. Qualifications Master's degree in Social Work from a program accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE). Minimum three to five years’ experience preferred, working as a clinical social worker in a health care setting; oncology, palliative care, and/or hospice experience desired. Valid and current Texas state master’s clinical-level license (e.g., LCSW). Bilingual preferred – Spanish. Physical Demands Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range.
