Purpose

The Lawn Attendant ensures that the lawns are mowed and trimmed in the area assigned. This position may also work in the parking lot and cover lunches in various other department. This position requires close contact with the public, the ability to work well with co-workers, and assists Santa’s guests in a safe, courteous and efficient manner.

Functions and Responsibilities

1. Keeps lawns mowed and trimmed
2. Leaf blow walkways
3. Assist in parking lot
4. Pick up and sort recycling items
5. Assist in landscaping
6. Ensures safety of all employees and guests
7. Greets guests courteously and assists guests
8. Maintains a positive attitude
9. Arrives at work on time, in “good show,” and keeps neat and clean throughout the day
10. Other duties as assigned

Knowledge and Skills

1. Able to learn the proper way to check and fill gas and oil in machinery using.
2. Must possess a courteous and friendly rapport with guests and co-workers.
3. Have interpersonal/communication skills orally and in written language.
4. Understand importance of wearing gloves, safety glasses and ear protection.

Extent of Public Contact

The Lawn Attendant will greet guests, graciously provide them assistance, and answer their questions to make their visit enjoyable.

Physical Demands

Position requires frequent reaching, stretching, stooping and climbing up and down stairs. Much of the workday consists of standing and walking. Often this person will be required to lift bags weighing up to 30 pounds, and occasionally may be required to lift up to 70 pounds.

Must have the following physical capabilities to ensure guest safety throughout the park:

• Quick Response Time : Reacts swiftly in the event of an emergency or to help guests or employees
• Manual Labor : Operates lawn mowers, weed whackers, and other lawn equipment
• Physical Stamina : Stands for long periods, walks, and sometimes lifts or moves objects.

Working Conditions and Environment

Daytime and Christmastime position which may include weekends and holidays. Position is outdoors.

Attendants may work in any of the following extreme weather situations:

• Summer – Hot and Humid Conditions:
  1. Attendants will work in hot and sunny weather, often with high humidity, especially in summer months
• Rain and Stormy Weather
  1. Attendants may have to work in light rain or deal with temporary bursts of inclement weather like thunderstorms or heavy rain.
• Windy Conditions
  1. In areas with frequent winds, attendants may need to monitor weather conditions to ensure safety of guests and employees
• Winter – Cold Conditions
  1. Attendants may be required to work in low temperatures, possibly with snow or ice.
  2. Will need to dress warmly, including wearing layers, gloves, hats, and appropriate outerwear.
  3. Depending on the location, there may be wind chill factors or occasional snow, which could impact visibility and comfort.

Job Requirements

• Must be 16 years of age or older
• Previous landscaping experience is preferred
• Must be able to exhibit all physical demands listed in this job description at any given time during shift
• Must be flexible throughout season, with weekend availability
• Must be able to work independently, with little daily supervision
