Wright City R-2 School District, Wright City High School High School Trap Shooting Coach Job ID: 5722206 Application Deadline: Posted until filled Posted: May 18, 2026 5:00 AM (UTC) Starting Date: To Be Determined Job Description Position Title: High School Trap Shooting Coach Reports To: High School Athletic Director Summary: Responsible for building a positive program through coaching and providing direction to student-athletes, organizing and running practices, coaching all scheduled contests, maintaining equipment, and overseeing the program. Job Responsibilities Promote the program and recruit interested students through fliers, announcements, social media and conversations. Follow all building procedures and district policies. Instruct and demonstrate skills necessary for individual and team improvement and achievement. Create and implement a plan for each practice that demands maximum participation of all student-athletes on teams. Coach all players. Work with the athletic director to create a season-long practice schedule given to student-athletes prior to the opening of the season. Work with the athletic director to ensure the creation of a competitive contest schedule. Communicate with parents all necessary information regarding schedules, cancellations, rescheduled games, or postponements. Adhere to all financial policies of the Wright City School District, in regard to the collection and expenditure of money, use of receipts, and tracking expenses. Work with the athletic director and transportation director to arrange appropriate transportation to all away contests. Travel with and supervise players on trips, or arrange for an assistant coach to do so. Make recommendations to the athletic director concerning all supply, uniform, and/or equipment purchases that showcase an understanding of budgeted funds. Ensure the proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of all athletic equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Maintain and update an accurate inventory of all equipment, supplies, and uniforms. Work to maintain the practice and match areas in order to assure safe and playable conditions. Provide an accurate roster of eligible student-athletes to the Athletic Director prior to the first contest, and communicate in-season changes of the roster. Ensure that all necessary MSHSAA eligibility paperwork has been completed for each athlete, and keep a copy of completed physical forms on hand during all contests. Complete all necessary MSHSAA coaching requirements prior to the beginning of the season. Ensure that the wrestling program meets all the weight and hydration expectations set by MSHSAA. Create and police a set of enforceable procedures governing the scholastic and behavioral progress of student-athletes in the program. Set high expectations for both behavior and academic success. Supervise students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensure appropriate behavior. Maintain a safe environment for student-athletes at all times, ensuring that medical and safety requirements are adhered to. Complete a Student Injury Report form for any student-athlete sustaining any type of injury during any practice or contest. Interact professionally with students, staff, parents, fellow coaches, and officials at all times, and resolve any and all conflicts in a professional manner. Ensure that all facilities utilized are cared for and that all district buildings utilized are secured and lights turned off before leaving. Supervise all student-athletes until they have left or have been picked up by parents at the conclusion of practices or contests. Maintain appropriate certifications and secure all confidential information. Attend scheduled practices, or assure coverage of practice by assistant coaches. Work to build the program from the youngest levels, which include hosting summer clinics or camps and working with the community in junior programs if necessary. Make the wrestling program one where student-athletes learn the sport and have an enjoyable experience. Qualifications A valid Missouri teaching certificate is highly preferred. Experience working with students of all athletic levels and abilities. Knowledge of basketball fundamentals or football coaching background, including the importance of safety. Essential Functions Interpersonal Skills Must possess strong, positive interpersonal skills including communication, ability to work with a wide demographic, including parents, students, assistant coaches, community members, and district personnel. Language Skills Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and policy and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively. Mathematical Skills Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, decimals and percentages. Reasoning Ability Ability to problem-solve and apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written and/or oral or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in varied situations. Physical Demands While performing the duties and responsibilities of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear, stand, move and walk at a brisk pace, sit, and use hands and arms to handle, feel and reach. The ability to accompany students anywhere on school premises. The employee is asked to run or jog, to demonstrate athletic moves on the mat and to maintain a high level of energy. Regular attendance on the job is expected and necessary. Terms of Employment Contract terms covering compensation, benefits, and working conditions are specified by the Board of Education’s policies, agreements and approvals. This is a seasonal position.
