Service Technician

The Service Technician refurbishes and prepares mobile office units so they are clean, safe, and ready for delivery to construction customers. This role combines hands-on construction trades skills such as carpentry, plumbing, electrical, drywall, and painting with detailed cleaning and quality checks. You will work primarily in a yard environment on mobile units, performing repairs, upgrades, and readiness work while collaborating closely with a supportive team.

Responsibilities

• Meet with the team at the start of each day to receive assignments and understand priorities for the mobile units and yard projects.
• Perform refurbishing and readiness work on mobile office units, including framing, finish carpentry, light electrical, flooring, plumbing, painting, and general construction repairs.
• Clean and prepare returned units by sweeping, hosing out interiors, and removing dirt, debris, and leftover materials to restore a clean, professional appearance.
• Replace and install flooring materials such as tiles and epoxy flooring, ensuring surfaces are properly cleaned, prepared, and finished for use.
• Repair drywall and sheetrock by patching holes, applying putty, sanding, and repainting surfaces to achieve a smooth, finished look.
• Replace and install components such as light bulbs, locks, blinds, door handles, and other fixtures to ensure units are fully functional and secure.
• Use power tools such as drills and saws safely and effectively to perform construction and repair tasks on mobile units.
• Read and interpret basic construction or refurbishment instructions and, where applicable, blueprints to complete assigned work accurately.
• Document completed work clearly and accurately, noting any issues that require additional attention or follow-up repairs.
• Assist with yard projects that support overall operations, using these tasks as opportunities to build hands-on skills and gain additional training.
• Follow all safety protocols and procedures, including the correct use of tools, equipment, and personal protective measures.
• Work both collaboratively with teammates and independently on assigned units, managing time and tasks to meet deadlines.
• Ensure all refurbished units meet company standards for cleanliness, safety, and readiness before they are shipped out to customers.

Essential Skills

• At least 1 year of experience in construction, general labor, or a closely related hands-on trade role.
• Hands-on experience with construction trades such as carpentry, framing, drywall, remodeling, or general repair work.
• Ability to perform framing and finish carpentry tasks on structures or mobile units.
• Experience with drywall and sheetrock repair, including patching, putty application, and surface preparation.
• Basic plumbing experience, including minor repairs and fixture replacement.
• Basic electrical or light electrical experience, such as replacing light bulbs and simple fixtures safely.
• Experience using power tools, including power drills and saws, or a strong willingness to learn and participate in on-the-job training.
• Familiarity with safety protocols and safe work practices in a construction or labor-intensive environment.
• Ability to follow rules, procedures, and instructions while working effectively in a team environment.
• Capability to perform labor-intensive tasks, including standing, bending, lifting, and working on feet for extended periods.
• Basic construction or refurbishing knowledge that aligns with new construction or service work.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience in home remodels, home refurbishing, or new construction projects.
• Experience in service work related to residential or commercial construction.
• Remodeling experience, including interior repairs, finish work, and turnovers.
• Experience with painting, including using brushes, rollers, and stencils for interior finishes.
• Ability to read or interpret basic blueprints or construction drawings.
• Experience with fire alarm-related tasks or exposure to building systems is a plus.
• Comfort using cleaning supplies and materials to restore units to a clean and presentable condition.
• Strong attention to detail and pride in workmanship when completing refurbishing tasks.
• Eagerness to develop new skills and progress within a hands-on, trade-focused career path.

Work Environment

Service Technicians work primarily in a yard setting on mobile office units rather than at client sites. The role is labor-intensive and hands-on, with technicians spending most of the day on their feet, working directly on units to refurbish and prepare them for use. Work includes both team-based tasks and individual assignments, providing a mix of collaboration and independent responsibility. Common tools and materials include cleaning supplies, paint and painting materials (buckets, brushes, rollers, stencils), drywall putty and masks for patching walls, and power tools such as drills and saws. The environment is supportive of safety and well-being, with extended breaks and plenty of water provided during very hot conditions. Dress typically reflects a boots-on-the-ground setting suitable for construction and yard work, with appropriate workwear and protective gear used to perform tasks safely.

Job Type & Location: This is a Contract to Hire position based out of San Martin, CA.

Pay and Benefits: The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr. Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
