Perform tasks independently or with craft workers, ensuring a comfortable living environment for students. Responsibilities: Assist security service shop staff with installation, repair, and maintenance of all types of locking hardware, exit devices, and low‑voltage access equipment; rekey hardware and use key cutting machines and software. Complete work orders from the department supervisor or manager for residence halls and general building repairs; communicate status and coordinate with other trades as needed; track inventory. Change power supplies, transformers, switches, outlets and perform minor electrical and low‑voltage (24V) repairs in the residence halls; conduct daily walkthroughs in mechanical rooms, checking power supplies and replacing as necessary; report larger issues to supervisor. Carry a UT cell phone, be on on‑call rotation, and respond to emergencies 24/7; work weekends and overtime as determined by the supervisor. Promote professional development of self and staff through ongoing training and workshops, including monthly safety training. Submit documentation promptly, participate in assessment development throughout the year, pick up supplies, drive the UT vehicle, and perform other assigned duties. Required Qualifications: High School Diploma / GED. At least two years of experience in installation, operation, construction, maintenance, or repair work related to the duties described. Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate. Preferred Qualifications: More than two years of experience in electrical and/or building maintenance and repair. Experience installing and repairing doors, door hardware, and exit devices. Experience with low‑voltage access systems. Experience rekeying commercial locking hardware. Experience with IC cores and master key systems. Experience working in facilities or maintenance at the University of Texas at Austin. Excellent communication skills. Demonstrated teamwork ability. Driving Required: This position requires a Class "C" operator's driver's license. Applicants must provide a current three‑year driving record. Non‑Texas residents must obtain a Texas driver's license within 30 days of becoming a resident. CDL holders are subject to drug and alcohol testing. Salary Range: $41,600 + depending on qualifications Working Conditions: Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished). Work in all weather and extreme temperature conditions. Work around chemical fumes and other hazards. Repetitive keyboard use and manual dexterity. Climbing stairs and ladders. Lifting and moving up to 212 lbs; moving 80 lbs. Must pass strength and agility testing prior to employment. Work Shift: Monday — Friday, 7:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Workdays, area, and hours may vary based on departmental needs.
