Social Worker III - Adult Services

Brunswick County DSS is accepting applications for a Social Worker III for the Adult Services team. A Social Worker III - Adult Services provides protective and case management services to disabled and vulnerable adults. This work includes evaluating allegations of abuse, neglect, and exploitation; providing case management services; assisting and protecting adults who were found to be incompetent and in need of Adult Guardianship services; and assessing the needs and providing services to disabled adults who wish to remain in their homes. Job responsibilities include:

• Assessing the safety of elderly and disabled adults through interviews, completing home and community visits as well as contacting family members and service providers.
• Connecting vulnerable adults to community resources to address safety and risk factors.
• Completing timely, concise, detailed documentation
• Preparing court documents and testifying in court as needed.
• Conducting interviews with disabled adults and others with knowledge of the adult's abilities and needs
• Consulting with professionals regarding the adult's history, needs, and abilities
• Reviewing medical and/or psychological records
• Rotating on-call coverage for adult services as assigned

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of adult services policies and legal mandates
• Knowledge of social work, practices, and principles
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
• General computer knowledge and ability to learn and navigate various programs and databases
• Excellent customer service skills
• Ability to prioritize tasks and reassess as priorities change in a fast-paced environment
• Ability to de-escalate upset clients / remain calm in stressful situations
• Strong written and oral communication skills

There will be a significant amount of time spent in family homes and in the community. Must be available to work during emergency situations.
