SMS group Inc. seeks a Senior Manager of Full Stack to work in Pittsburgh, PA.  The Senior Manager of Full Stack provides strategic technical leadership and business development direction for SMS group's full stack software engineering organization. Reporting directly to the Vice President, the Senior Manager operates primarily at the intersection of technology strategy, technical sales, and organizational leadership, translating executive-level business objectives into engineering roadmaps and representing SMS group's digital capabilities to customers and partners. The Senior Manager is responsible for leading and growing a multi-tier engineering organization consisting of managers and individual contributors, driving technical sales engagements with customers in the metals industry, establishing generalized system architecture standards across product lines, and aligning the software engineering function with SMS group's broader commercial and strategic goals. This role requires a leader who can bridge deep technical understanding with commercial acumen, providing technical presentations to clients, contributing to pricing strategies for digital products, conducting capacity and resource planning across multiple teams, and making strategic build-vs-buy decisions that affect the Digital department's technology direction for solutions serving rolling mill, metallurgy, and process line equipment. Lead technical sales engagements by presenting SMS group's digital product portfolio and software capabilities to prospective and existing customers in the metals industry, including executive-level demonstrations and technical deep-dives. Develop and deliver technical proposals, statements of work, and solution architectures in response to customer requirements, collaborating with the Sales and General Business Development teams to qualify opportunities and close deals. Contribute to the pricing strategy and licensing models for the Digital department's software products, including MES solutions, in collaboration with the Vice President and Sales teams. Serve as a primary technical point of contact for key customer accounts, managing technical relationships throughout the sales cycle and post-deployment, and supporting the Vice President on executive-level customer engagements. Lead pre-engineering activities for prospective projects, including technical feasibility assessments, solution scoping, effort estimation, and preliminary architecture definition to support the sales process. Drive solution development for specific customer challenges such as production planning optimization, downtime reduction, and KPI improvement, translating customer pain points into actionable software solution proposals. Develop and execute the annual strategic plan for the full stack software engineering organization, including headcount planning, skills development roadmap, and technology investment priorities. Manage a multi-tier organization of managers and individual developers, including hiring, performance management, career development, and succession planning for direct and indirect reports. Develop and manage the annual budget estimates for the software engineering teams within the Digital department, including personnel costs, tooling, licensing, infrastructure, and training expenditures, providing forecasts and recommendations to the Vice President for approval. Establish and maintain cross-departmental alignment with Electric and Automation, Data Engineering, Data Science, UX Design, and Product Management by participating in executive steering committees and strategic planning sessions. Define and track organizational KPIs including delivery velocity, quality metrics, customer satisfaction scores, and team utilization rates, reporting progress directly to the Vice President and executive leadership. Drive organizational change initiatives including adoption of new development methodologies, tooling migrations, and process improvements across the engineering organization. Build and develop the Digital department's service capabilities, including defining service offerings, establishing delivery frameworks, and creating repeatable engagement models for customer support and ongoing system maintenance. Define and govern the generalized system architecture and technology standards for the Digital department's software product portfolio, ensuring consistency, scalability, and maintainability across the department's product lines. Conduct architecture reviews and provide strategic technical guidance on major design decisions, including platform selection, integration patterns, and data architecture for enterprise systems. Establish and maintain the technology roadmap for the Digital department, evaluating emerging technologies and making strategic recommendations on adoption, proof-of-concept development, and technology retirement decisions. Define reusable architectural patterns, reference implementations, and shared component strategies to accelerate development across the Digital department's product lines and reduce technical debt. Oversee the development and integration of simulation capabilities within the Digital department's product portfolio, ensuring simulation models align with system architecture standards and customer requirements. Provide technical oversight of software delivery across the Digital department's product lines, ensuring adherence to architecture standards, security requirements, and quality benchmarks without direct hands-on coding. Review and approve technical approaches for complex integration scenarios involving MES, process control systems, and commercial enterprise systems. Oversee the continuous improvement of CI/CD pipelines, development tooling, and DevOps practices across the Digital department's engineering teams. Direct management of Managers of Full Stack and individual Full Stack Application Developers. Capacity and resource planning across multiple software development teams. Budget estimation and management for the software engineering teams within the Digital department, with recommendations to the Vice President. Hiring, performance evaluation, career development, and succession planning for direct and indirect reports. Contributing to software product licensing, pricing, and commercial terms decisions in coordination with the Vice President. Customer relationship management at the technical decision-maker level, supporting the Vice President on executive-level engagements. Technical business development leadership for the Sales and General Business Development organization.

Must possess, at a minimum , a Bachelor’s degree or foreign equivalent in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronic Engineering, Automation Engineering or other Computational Science, or a related field of study, AND Seven (7) years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience in software development or a related field. Previous work experience must have included experience with: Two (2) years of experience in MES (Manufacturing Execution Systems) or metals production software development; Experience in object-oriented programming using C# and JavaScript; Experience in relational database design and optimization including MS SQL Server; Experience with Agile Scrum software development methodology; Experience conceptualizing, designing, and building software application solutions; Experience in software development for industrial automation or Electric and Automation environments; Experience in the metals industry from a metallurgical process standpoint; Experience with metals production software solutions and workflows; Experience in production planning and scheduling and the implementation of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES); and Experience manipulating and preparing large, heterogeneous data sets to support advanced analytics.
