Nursing Assistant

Allied Health ProfessionalDuties include, but are not limited to:Assisting patients to keep physically and socially active and to maintain peer group interactions.Assisting patients to cope with loss, e.g. hearing, eyesight, and death of significant others.Assisting patients with self-care as required, and with maintaining as much independence as possible.Performs basic procedures and treatments according to the orientation/annual/unit specific competency checklist for assigned patients with guidance.Recognizes medical/behavioral emergencies and obtains immediate assistance; completes basic life support and PMDB (as appropriate) training within orientation period.Assists patients to keep physically and socially active.Attends interdisciplinary rounds and discharge planning meetings, developing a beginning awareness of team member roles and educational tools.Implements patient instruction/discharge planning interventions for assigned patients as designated by Team Leader/Charge Nurse.Provides respectful care that maintains individuality, dignity, and self-esteem for Veterans in an environment that focuses on their care needs and quality of life.Demonstrates beginning knowledge of documentation requirements; records nursing care, procedures, and treatments for assigned Veterans on established templates in accordance with Nursing Service standards.Follows basic admission routine for admitting designated Veterans.Provides accurate information for special incidents involving Veterans and staff members to Team Leader/Charge Nurse shortly after incident occurs.Provides update to Team Leader/Charge Nurse on status of assigned Veterans prior to leaving unit for breaks, lunch, end of tour, etc.Shares information on assigned Veterans in handoff to oncoming staff members as directed by the Team Leader/Charge Nurse.Shares data and observations with Team Leader/Charge Nurse during development of initial care plan.Participates in ongoing evaluation of Veteran care and revision of care plan by sharing data and observations with Team Leader/Charge Nurse.Displays an awareness of teamwork during interactions with peers, health team members, Veterans, families, and/or significant others.Performs assigned unit duties in a timely and dependable manner.All other duties as assigned.Work Schedule: 2330-0800, including weekend and holiday rotationPay: Competitive salary and regular salary increases When setting pay, a higher step rate of the appropriate grade may be determined after consideration of higher or unique qualifications or special needs of the VA (Above Minimum Rate of the Grade).Paid Time Off: 37-50 days of annual paid time offer per year (13-26 days of annual leave, 13 days of sick leave, 11 paid Federal holidays per year) Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience.Parental Leave: After 12 months of employment, up to 12 weeks of paid parental leave in connection with the birth, adoption, or foster care placement of a child.Child Care Subsidy: After 60 days of employment, full time employees with a total family income below $144,000 may be eligible for a childcare subsidy up to 25% of total eligible childcare costs for eligible children up to the monthly maximum of $416.66Retirement: Traditional federal pension (5 years vesting) and federal 401K with up to 5% in contributions by VAInsurance: Federal health/vision/dental/term life/long-term care (many federal insurance programs can be carried into retirement)Virtual: This is not a virtual position.Functional Statement #: 91450-A, 91451-A, 91452-A
