The Traffic Control Supervisor oversees operations related to traffic control for road and highway construction projects. Responsibilities include setting up and maintaining temporary traffic control in work zones, using traffic control devices to divert drivers and pedestrians, monitoring road repairs, supervising teams during equipment installation, ensuring compliance with DOT regulations, and coordinating and inspecting traffic control set‑ups for conformance with approved plans, MUTCD guidelines, and local requirements. Current TCS Certificate required; willingness to travel (per diem paid). Responsibilities Follow all safety rules and regulations of the company and particularly the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations. Supervise or assist traffic control technician, laborer, or driver in traffic control responsibilities. Coordinate traffic control technician assignment with dispatch. Operate company trucks to transport materials and equipment to job sites. Drive MANAGEMENT OF TRAFFIC vehicle and TRUCK MOUNTED ATTENUATOR vehicle to and from projects and on work sites. Place temporary construction signs, arrow boards, variable message boards, and other traffic safety devices in work areas. Monitor the work zone throughout the shift to ensure items remain in their proper locations. Collect and load traffic control items at the beginning and end of shifts. Install, remove, and reset delineators, signs, posts, and supports. Make deliveries, pick‑ups, and job checks efficiently and timely. Maintain accurate and timely pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection paperwork. Communicate with all levels of people – employees, customers, service schedules, etc. Maintain a professional and respectful atmosphere; provide exceptional customer service. Perform a needs assessment when speaking with customers to translate requests into relevant products. Maintain delivery/pickup tickets. Learn and be responsible for safe lifting, loading, and unloading of equipment to and from trucks. Keep company vehicles clean and orderly, informing management of safety concerns or vehicle problems. Arrive on time wearing proper personal protective equipment. Adhere to all company policies and procedures. Direct traffic at construction sites to ensure safety of workers, pedestrians, and motorists. Set up and maintain traffic control devices such as cones, signs, and barricades. Communicate effectively with construction crews to coordinate traffic control efforts. Monitor traffic patterns and adjust control measures as needed. Report any incidents or issues to supervisors promptly. Apply knowledge of quality inspection and control procedures. Work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment while prioritizing safety. Use strong communication skills to interact with diverse groups. Understand basic electrical components related to traffic control systems. Promote environmental, health, and safety policies. Proficient in traffic control and use of traffic control program. Perform other related duties as assigned. Success Factors Pass medical fit‑for‑duty test; hold/obtain DOT medical card. Read maps and local street plans; basic reading, writing, and compliance with road signs and federal/state motor carrier safety regulations. Read and implement traffic control plans accurately. Good knowledge of state and local roadways and experience operating delivery vehicles of varying sizes. Apply technical thinking to read standards and schematics. Strong communication and interpersonal skills for building relationships internally and externally. Possess strong knowledge of the traffic control/construction industry; prior experience desired. Understand construction inspection processes. Background in construction management and/or project management. Excellent decision‑making, analytical, and problem‑solving skills with high attention to detail. Self‑motivated; capable of taking initiative, prioritizing multiple assignments, and meeting deadlines. Plan and manage work activities effectively to meet critical due dates. Excellent organization, time management, and follow‑up skills; manage simultaneous projects. Adapt quickly to changing demands and unexpected situations. Proficient with Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; willing to learn. Maintain professionalism in all customer interactions. Willing to travel as needed; work outdoors in varying weather conditions. Perform prolonged and repeated lifting up to 35 lbs, standing, walking, climbing, twisting, kneeling, reaching, and balance work; quick, accurate hand‑eye coordination required. Stand for extended periods (8–10 hrs per day). Experience and Education High School Diploma or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience. Two years’ experience in traffic control supervision. Traffic Control Supervisor Certification (CCA or ATSSA) required; active certification in ATSSA or CCA TCS. Experience with construction site traffic control required. Experience in construction or utility distribution industry is highly desirable. Additional Requirements / Licenses / Certifications Possession of or ability to obtain a valid State of Residence Driver’s License within two weeks of employment. Pass criminal background check and Motor Vehicle Record check; pass pre‑employment drug screen. Willingness to travel (per diem paid).
