Job Summary:A Reinforcing Iron Journeyman will position and secure steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.Overview of Primary Duties:Determines the number, size, shape, and locations of reinforcing rods from blueprints, sketches, or oral instructions.Positions and secures steel bars in concrete forms to reinforce concrete.Selects and places rods in forms, spacing and fastening them together using wire and pliers.Cuts bars to required lengths, using a hacksaw, bar cutters, or acetylene torch.Bend steel rods with hand tools or rod bending machine.Reinforces concrete with wire mesh.May reinforce concrete with wire mesh. May weld reinforcing bars together, using arc-welding equipment.Ensures that all reinforcing material is in its proper position, so it receives its intended structural load.Loads, transports and unloads material, tools, equipment, and supplies.May assist in lifting, positioning, and securing of material and work pieces during installation.May perform minor maintenance or cleaning activities of tools and equipment.Responsible for observing and complying with all safety and project rules.Performs other duties as required.Demonstrate Yates Core Values and PrinciplesFollow Yates Code of ConductSafety Responsibilities and Expectations Responsible for refusing unsafe work and for carrying out all work by the established Yates Safety Procedures and Work PracticesReport all incidents, near hits, and hazards to management.Required to wear and maintain personal PPE.Advise fellow employees of hazardous situations.Participate in workplace inspections.Comply with statutory requirements, including duty of care.Participate in required and assigned training.Provide suggestions to improve Safety.Present a mature approach to working safely.Attend prestart and Safety meetings and contribute.Other related duties as needed and assigned by Field Supervision.This is not an all-inclusive list of tasks an employee may be asked to do.
