Summary of Job Duties:
A Medical Laboratory Scientist in the Microbiology Laboratory is responsible for processing, evaluating and performing tests to identify microorganisms or antigens according to written procedures and performs susceptibilities. This person will also record and evaluate daily, weekly, and monthly QC in their assigned areas for further review by the supervisor. This position requires one to maintain safe work practices, follow all regulatory requirements and engage supervisor, manager, or director as appropriate.
Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's Degree in Medical Technology or Medical Laboratory Sciences OR an approved ASCP discipline (30 semester hours in biology and chemistry, which may be obtained within, or in addition to, the Bachelor's). ASCP or another accrediting agency certified or eligible (Certification must be obtained within one year of employment).

Job Requirements:

• Conducts inventory counts on assigned areas, restocks supplies as needed, reports supplies to be ordered, and stores received supplies per storage requirements and regulations.
• Interacts with staff from various departments to coordinate the proper acquisition, testing, and reporting of patient test results.
• Performs function checks on analyzers, lab equipment and automation equipment.
• Completes machine maintenance, calibrations, and troubleshoots problems as required. Works with service representatives as needed to facilitate instrument repairs.
• Perform other duties as needed.
