Minimum of 1 year of experience in animal procedures Work Location IC: NHLBI Street: 9000 Rockville Pike Bldg: 10 Room: 6N240 City : Bethesa State & Zip : MD 20892 Work Hours Weekly Hours FT: 30-40 hours per week # Of Hours 40 Statement of Work Details Provides technical experience needed to assist in studying the basic principles of plant and animal life Plan and administer biological research programs Study basic principles of plant and animal life, such as origin, relationship, development, anatomy, and function Identify, classify, and study structure, behavior, ecology, physiology, nutrition, culture, and distribution of plant and animal species Perform DNA prep and DNA sequencing on blood and bone marrow samples. Perform DNA sequencing analysis on blood and bone marrow samples. Support murine (and, in the future, monkey) bone marrow transplant studies. Develop protocols for laboratory equipment and new techniques. Develop protocols for laboratory equipment and new techniques. Assists with performing basic laboratory experiments and procedures Collect and analyze biological data about relationships among and between organisms and their environment 1 Analyze experimental data and interpret results to write reports and summaries of findings Process and store bone marrow and blood samples, with greater than or equal to 90% cell viability. Mentor a postbaccalaureate fellow to work on the project of sequencing SCD patients pre- and post-transplant as well as in donor baseline timepoints for the presence of mutations that may represent clonal hematopoiesis. Ensure that skills and training are kept current on all laboratory and institute requirements Develop protocols for laboratory equipment and new techniques. Prepares, organizes and maintains various lab samples, supplies, and equipment Operate, calibrate, or maintain equipment used in quantitative or qualitative analysis, such as spectrophotometers, calorimeters, flame photo meters, or computer-controlled analyzers Maintain laboratory equipment Operate laboratory equipment to analyze samples Maintain the laboratory in an organized, clean manner; purchase supplies using POTS; stock supplies; make solutions; dispose of chemical waste; etc. Maintain the equipment through troubleshooting and performing or coordinating maintenance, service, and repair tasks as necessary. Ensure that all members of the laboratory are updated with regard to laboratory safety requirements. Provide guidance and assistance to other members of the laboratory using basic techniques such as flow cytometry and quantitative PCR.
