Job Description
Medical Technologist

Job Summary

We are seeking a dedicated Medical Technologist to coordinate testing procedures and manage clinical data within the Laboratory Department. The ideal candidate will have strong phlebotomy experience and excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively with medical and technical staff.

Schedule/Rotation

• Day Shift: 7 Days On, 7 Days Off
• First three days: 12-hour shifts from 0500 - 1730
• Last four days: 10-hour shifts from 0700 - 1730
• Minimal call time required

Key Responsibilities

• Integrate current scientific knowledge with technical competency in laboratory operations.
• Implement and adhere to safety protocols, including the Safety/Chemical Hygiene Plan, Infectious/Exposure Control Plan, Electrical Safety, Disaster Plan, and Compliance and Ethics policies.
• Perform EKGs, phlebotomies, therapeutic phlebotomies, arterial and capillary collections, applying age-related techniques.
• Clarify physicians' orders and provide pertinent information regarding orders, specimens, and test results.
• Maintain standards for routine, timed, and STAT testing by setting priorities appropriately.
• Assist in the orientation and training of new staff members.
• Ensure a clean and safe working environment while promoting workplace safety.
• Prepare and monitor quality control charts and instrument maintenance protocols to ensure result integrity.
• Demonstrate competency in patient care within an environment that prioritizes safety and minimizes health care errors.
• Utilize good judgment when responding to laboratory inquiries and follow procedures diligently.
• Document preventive maintenance actions and ensure proper identification and reporting of any medical/health care errors.
• Actively protect patients in the event of errors and assist in the resolution process as needed.

Qualifications

• Certification or registration with ASCP, NCA, or equivalent registry.
• Phlebotomy experience is essential.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual ability is a plus.
• Proficient computer skills for effective communication with medical and technical personnel.
