Tech - MLT/Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist

Job Description

Job Summary:
The Medical Technologist is responsible for performing laboratory testing, including phlebotomy, EKGs, and specimen collection, to support accurate patient diagnosis and care. They coordinate testing procedures, ensure quality control, and maintain safety standards within the laboratory environment.

Responsibilities:

• Perform routine, STAT, and specialized laboratory tests following established protocols.
• Collect and process blood and tissue specimens using age-appropriate techniques, ensuring proper identification and handling.
• Monitor and document quality control and instrument maintenance to uphold test accuracy and reliability.
• Interpret and clarify physician's orders, results, and answer related clinical questions.
• Assist in training and orientation of new laboratory staff and ensure compliance with safety, chemical hygiene, and infection control policies.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and efficient work environment, addressing equipment issues and ensuring proper safety practices.

Qualifications:

• Hold current certification or registration with ASCP, NCA, NEW, or an equivalent registry.
• Demonstrate proficiency in phlebotomy, specimen collection, and laboratory testing procedures.
• Possess excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; bilingual abilities are a plus.
• Have computer skills to effectively communicate and document laboratory activities.
• Minimum of one year of clinical laboratory experience, including specimen processing and testing.
• Knowledge of laboratory safety, quality control practices, and accreditation standards.
