Travel RN Job Details

• Position: Emergency Department Registered Nurse (ED RN)
• Location: Madison, Wisconsin
• Employment Type: Travel nursing contract
• Estimated Weekly Pay: $2,250–$2,370
• Start Date: November 30, 2026
• End Date: March 1, 2027
• Contract Duration: 13 weeks
• Schedule: Three 12-hour shifts per week; evening or night shifts
• Shift Duration: 12 hours
• Shift Times: Approximately 3:00 p.m.–3:30 a.m. or 7:00 p.m.–7:30 a.m.; 8-hour shifts may be needed
• Weekly Hours: 36 hours
• Patient Population: Neonates, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults
• Patient Ratio: Approximately 1:4
• Weekend and Holiday Coverage: Rotation required
• Float Requirement: May float to another emergency department within the health system as needed
• Orientation: 20 hours

Emergency Department RN Job Requirements

• Current Registered Nurse (RN) license in Wisconsin or a compact state
• At least 2 years of Emergency Department or emergency room nursing experience with both adult and pediatric patients within the past 3 years
• Previous travel nursing experience required
• Experience in a high-acuity emergency department; Level II trauma experience required and Level I trauma experience preferred
• Epic electronic health record experience required
• Current American Heart Association (AHA) certifications in BLS, ACLS, and PALS
• Current TNCC certification
• Ability to complete and pass a telemetry examination before the assignment begins
• Willingness to participate in strict telemetry testing requirements, including adult and pediatric rhythm interpretation
• Previous charge nurse experience preferred
• Seasonal influenza vaccination required, subject to approved medical or religious exemption

Emergency Nursing Responsibilities

• Provide timely, evidence-based emergency nursing care to patients across the lifespan
• Perform triage, focused assessments, reassessments, and ongoing monitoring for patients with emergent and complex conditions
• Care for patients experiencing trauma, stroke, STEMI, respiratory failure, sepsis, overdose, burns, behavioral health crises, neurological emergencies, and multisystem organ dysfunction
• Manage ventilated patients, central lines, arterial lines, chest tubes, IV vasopressors, continuous sedation, and other high-acuity therapies
• Interpret cardiac rhythms and 12-lead ECGs and respond appropriately to dysrhythmias and other cardiac emergencies
• Administer emergency medications, blood products, procedural sedation, and other treatments according to established protocols
• Initiate and maintain IV access, collect specimens, assist with airway management, and support resuscitation efforts
• Collaborate with physicians, respiratory therapists, rapid response teams, pharmacy, radiology, social services, and other interdisciplinary partners
• Support the care of critically ill and injured patients arriving by ambulance or air transport
• Float to designated emergency department locations and adapt to changing patient-care needs
• Maintain accurate documentation in Epic while promoting patient safety, education, dignity, and compassionate care
