Cafeteria Services Specialist

To establish a list of eligible candidates that will be used to fill current and any future vacancies (part-time) for the duration of the list, up to one year. The immediate vacancy is a 10-month, part time position (4.25 hours a day) located at Atherwood Elementary School. Completed applications must be submitted no later than 11:59 p.m. one week prior to the exam date. Late applications and/or certificates will not be accepted. A) Multiple Choice Test = 40% weighting on final score Tentatively scheduled for as early as Tuesday, August 25, 2026 B) Structured Interview = 60% weighting on final score Tentatively scheduled for as early as the week of August 31, 2026 Applicants must meet the minimum qualifications stated in the job posting by the application deadline in order to move forward in the testing process. Those candidates who meet the minimum qualifications will be invited to the multiple choice test. Those with the highest scores on the multiple choice test will be invited to the structured interview. The testing process is subject to change as needs dictate. Operates a satellite food service facility by receiving, heating and serving prepackaged and fresh foods, and performing cashiering, data entry, recordkeeping and reports, and clean up. Maintains an inventory of food and supplies, determines quantity of food required and makes the appropriate orders. Heats and serves food in accordance with the National School Lunch Program (NSLP) and other applicable food safety regulations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Organizes and Sequences Food Preparation and Service

• Receives food items from a central kitchen
• Organizes, heats, and prepares food items for service
• Arranges individually packaged and/or portioned food items on a service line for easy selection by students
• Operates various kitchen equipment as needed

Maintains Records and Inventory

• Maintains HACCP food production records, inventory, and ordering documents
• Stores products and supplies properly in storage and service areas
• Prepares and maintains records and reports on orders, inventory, sales, meals served, and monies collected

Prepares and Serves Food

• Prepares and serves pre-packaged food items according to specified quantities and menus
• Prepares and serves substitute food items to accommodate variances in student counts
• Restocks food items in storage to ensure readiness for re-serving
• Monitors and Applies Food Safety Practices
• Monitors food products to ensure quality and safety
• Applies first-in-first-out inventory and stock rotation practices
• Applies food safety guidelines, including a HACCP plan, and procedures to protect food from contamination
• Records food temperatures at regular intervals during heating

Performs Cashier and Financial Duties

• Serves as a cashier, handling money and point-of-sale transactions
• Participates in compiling daily receipts, cash, and meal counts

Other Functions

• Performs other duties as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Minimum Qualifications

Education and Experience Requires a high school diploma or equivalent, and some computer and recordkeeping experience. Food services experience desirable. Licenses and Certificates May require a valid California Driver's License. Valid California Food Safety Certificate must be obtained prior to completion of probation.

• Interpret menus and ingredient lists correctly
• Manage inventory, ordering, and storage of supplies
• Implement and maintain HACCP (Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points) procedures
• Handle point-of-sale transactions and compile financial reports
• Ensure compliance with food safety and sanitation regulations
• Emphasize safety procedures and equipment operation standards
• Serve as a cashier and handle customer transactions efficiently
• Work independently with minimal supervision, use initiative and sound judgment within established guidelines
• Work varying shifts and locations as needed
